| Organizational Unit Overview |
The organizational unit is the Division of Academic Affairs of the Department of Public Health at the Brody School of Medicine. Our Department of Public Health is committed to educating professionals and conducting research to improve the health of communities in our region and beyond. This mission aligns with the Brody School of Medicine's mission to improve the health and well-being of the region. We practice a combination of science and social approaches to reduce disease and systematically address the multiple determinants of health. Our work is rooted in strong partnerships with the community, health and social services, industry and business, and academia.
The evidence-based study and practice of Public Health have never been more important as our region, state, nation, and world face significant health challenges. The mission and vision of the Department of Public Health in the Brody School of Medicine are to promote the health and well-being of communities across North Carolina and beyond through innovative education, research, and service.
Our five guiding principles are to provide accessible stakeholder-informed learning opportunities, conduct applied and impactful research, serve communities through collaboration, advance the health in rural populations, and develop professionals who adapt to meet current challenges. These guiding principles are the driving forces for our teaching, research, and service.
Learning opportunities of the department include:
- Two online Certificate programs
- The Master of Public Health degree program with three concentrations (which can be completed online)
- Two doctoral degrees: the DrPH programs in Health Policy, Administration, and Leadership and Environmental and Occupational Health.
Public Health is collaborative in research and service, and works with local, regional, state, and national public health and health care agencies, and works closely with and is guided by an interdisciplinary group of Community Advisory Board members who lend their expertise to help us achieve program goals. |
| Job Duties |
The Department of Public Health is seeking a Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator - Applied Practice & Alumni Engagement will be responsible for streamlining the internship process and supporting Departmental Marketing Campaigns and Student Recruitment Events. The job duties for the position are as follows:
Student Applied Practicum Experience Coordination (70%):
- Lead the development and management of a comprehensive database of active student practicum ("internship", Applied Practicum Experience, APE) opportunities for MPH and DrPH students. Build relationships with APE Preceptors to encourage increased involvement in the APE in the future. Compile and maintain a list of products needed by placement sites to facilitate APE student placements. Work with program faculty and the Director of Accreditation to ensure that CEPH criteria for tracking competency achievement through the APE are fulfilled. Collaborate directly with the Academic Health department liaison to identify opportunities within local health departments in the region. Facilitate the establishment of new University Affiliation Agreements and renew existing agreements, for practicum sites as needed. Monitor and track student rotations and assigned preceptors each semester. Provide ongoing support to ensure students secure meaningful and high-quality experiences aligned with their academic and professional goals.
Alumni Relations Coordination (20%):
- Develop and implement strategic communication initiatives to engage alumni, including e-newsletters, social media outreach, and website content. Support the creation and growth of a departmental alumni association. Collect and share alumni feedback with faculty to strengthen program development. Plan and coordinate alumni events, encourage recent graduates to participate, and foster networking opportunities that strengthen alumni connections with each other and the department.
Program Recruitment (10%):
- Oversee departmental marketing initiatives to enhance recruitment and visibility. Update and maintain promotional materials, including brochures and digital content. Coordinate exhibitor booth logistics, including purchasing materials and staffing events. Recommend and implement targeted marketing strategies to effectively reach prospective students and key audiences.
