This position is responsible for the processing and timely delivery of payroll for Sunbelt Solomon. It is vital that the payroll specialist exercise discretion and independent judgment when investigating and resolving payroll issues while ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.



  • Process bi-weekly on-cycle, off-cycle, and supplemental payrolls.
  • Actively monitor employee profiles and timesheet information to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Drive overall quality control as well as support and identify opportunities for process optimization and automation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system errors, be able to document and provide root cause analysis.
  • Maintain accurate records of payroll documentation, transactions, and payments made to employees.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve employee concerns.
  • Perform account balancing and payroll reconciliations.
  • Act as subject matter expert in new and existing payroll, labor, and tax laws to ensure company compliance with regulatory entities.
  • Conduct applicable risk-based auditing to ensure consistent and accurate results.
  • Identify and accurately process prevailing wages and applicable documentation.
  • Partner with payroll manager to create and implement policies and procedures around payroll practices.
  • Adhere to Operating System guidelines, supporting POV and industry best practices.
  • Support effective cost management practices and suggest operational improvements.
  • Verify employee records and consult business partner in the event of a discrepancy.
  • Accurate and timely processing of wage garnishments according to applicable state agencies' legal requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all employees' records and ensure all applicable payroll documents are complete, filed orderly, and timely.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws in conjunction with employee's pay, bank policies and procedures.
  • Serve as liaison for 401K, HSA, and FSA programs, balance, and upload files to respective vendors.
  • Process employee terminations, mail life insurance conversion and portability notices, and trigger COBRA, when applicable.
  • Support Finance through basic accounting knowledge of general ledger, credit cards, and understanding of the business.
  • Accurately monitor and maintain tracking of FMLA, short-term disability, parental leave, vacation, other paid time off and accruals.
  • Timely completion of employment verification requests
  • Minimum of 5 years payroll experience required
  • Experience processing Canadian Payroll is preferred but not required
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, accounting, business, a related field or equivalent work experience required2 - 5 years related payroll, human resources, or benefits, experience a plus
  • FPC certification preferred
  • Kronos software experience preferred
  • PHR, SHRM-CP certification a plus
  • Strong knowledge and application of both state and federal labor, payroll, and tax laws
  • Excellent internal customer service skills that include the ability to effectively consult employees in payroll matters and resolve payroll issues appropriately
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and payroll practices
  • Experience working with payroll and HRIS software (UKG Ready or UKG Pro)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build relationships and trust at all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to manage competing needs effectively
