We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Assessment Specialist



The Assessment Specialist conducts standardized assessments for homeless men to identify housing barriers and determine the level of service needed.



The Schwartz Men's Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. To learn more about the program, copy and paste this link into a browser https://www.voa-gny.org/housing


Location: Wards Island, NY 10035



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Associates Degree or 60 college credits courses in Human Services field or High School Diploma or GED with 2 year of relevant shelter experience.
  • The position also requires a demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.



Assessment Specialist Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Provide standardized assessments to individuals who have entered the shelter.
  2. Obtain household verification and background checks as required.
  3. Assess client's housing and services need. Identify immediate housing placement opportunities for clients.
  4. Collaborate with area providers to coordinate necessary services.
  5. Make referrals to case management, housing search support and other services as appropriate.
