OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Support the planning, building and operations of Broad's internal network infrastructure, data centers and network services. Participate in the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of network hardware, software and systems solutions across multiple platforms to support IT requirements, including planning and monitoring of space and power within the Broad data centers.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Participate in the design, configuration, installation,testing and operations of all network and data center hardware & network services.

  • Perform network monitoring for utilization and issues, using existing and new monitoring tools ( Panorama, Solarwinds, Juniper Mist, etc...) and monitor for network intrusions.

  • Applies advanced expertise and exercises considerable latitude to determine objectives and to develop effective solutions to guide the successful completion of complex assignments under limited supervision.

  • Act as a subject matter expert with a strong reputation of networking expertise for both developing employees and employees in other disciplines across the department

  • Diagnose infrastructure failures and resolve problems

  • Create and maintain documentation of data center components, infrastructure design and technical procedures

  • Fulfill networking related service requests (ServiceNow Tickets) from users & fellow IT personnel

  • Evaluate and test new network technologies and plan for their use

  • Share on-call support for nights and weekends with other members of the IT Department

  • Project management of medium and large sized projects, including but not limited to a major consolidation of our data center space, as assigned by team leadership

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of IT experience, with 7+ years in the networking field. Candidates with 5+ years specifically in a research / lab network environment may also apply.

  • Expert level understanding of routing, switching, WAN, LAN, VPN, firewalls and other internet working technologies in a large, multi-site environment.

  • Experience with BGP and EVPN-VXLAN is a must.

  • Knowledge of data center electrical standards and related calculations, cooling and air handling

  • Experience with racking & unracking equipment, patching, cable management & power in a data center environment

  • Critical thinking and independent problem solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot issues independently and to be resourceful in finding documentation and information needed to resolve issues

  • Significant experience with Juniper, Palo Alto, Solarwinds, and Cisco

  • Basic knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible, Git, Puppet, Chef, etc
  • Knowledge equivalent to CCNP or greater - certificates are not required

  • Working knowledge of at least 1 scripting language, ( Python and Bash preferred )

  • Working knowledge of common desktop operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and Linux

  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Prior experience in a rotating on-call & ticketing environment. Ability to work independently during off-hours as needed.

  • Ability to climb and work on a ladder up to 4'

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field

  • Prior experience with public cloud operations

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
