Position Summary

Wheeling Hospital Emergency Medicine Fellowship is an accredited training program for post graduate training in emergency medicine, and as such, complies with the requirements set forth in the American Association of Emergency Physicians requirements.

General Information

Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities of a fellow. As a fellow, you are delegated authority, responsibility and accountability to carry out your assigned duties.

Fellows are licensed physicians who work independently but under the supervision of emergency department attending physicians.

Job Duties

1. Participate in prescribed set of monthly rotations. Meet the goals and objectives of each rotation and perform duties as outlined in the rotation guide.

2. Provide professional medical services to patients in the hospital emergency department under direction of the emergency department attending including:

  • Patient triage and assessment, history and physical exam

  • Complete medication reconciliation

  • Develop treatment plan and submit orders

  • Review patient progress, test results

  • Complete documentation timely in medical record

  • Notify the attending physician about admission

3. Procedures

The fellow is required to perform a certain number of procedures in order to become proficient as outlined in the procedure policy. An attending physician who precepts procedures must hold clinical privileges for that procedure.

4. Medical Record entries must be completed in a timely manner.

5.Metrics

The fellow is responsible to understand the applicable metrics that pertain to the emergency department.

6.Didactics

Attend didactic experiences including lectures and maintain acceptable levels of attendance. Fulfill requirements for presentations, Journal Club and Scholarly Activities.

Job Requirements

Completed medical school and possess a valid MD or DO degree.

Completed residency training in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Valid WV license and DEA.

Complete application for fellowship and meet AAEP/AAPS criteria and program criteria for selection.

Verification of milestone competency.

Successful completion of pre-requisites for starling the fellowship program including pre-employment physical and drug screen, visa requirements, etc as required by the program.

*Fellows receive a $5,000 transition allowance that is processed after they arrive for orientation*
