Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a highly-skilled, outgoing, self-motivatedSenior Civil Engineerwith at least nine (9) years of experience and strong background in project management to support and lead civil engineering projects in our Downtown Los Angeles office. This role focuses on project delivery, client coordination, and mentoring junior staff. The successful candidate will manage projects from planning through construction while working closely with other disciplines and office leadership.

This position is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys responsibility, client interaction, and developing others, without carrying full department-level management duties. This role offers the opportunity to grow with a developing civil group while contributing to the long-term success of the Downtown Los Angeles office.

Applicants must be well versed in all aspects of civil engineering land development, including site layouts, grading plans, stormwater management facilities, low impact design, water quality best management practices, and utilities. Experience with public utility project and/or Los Angeles experience will be looked upon favorably.

The successful individual will be assisting our business development team and other discipline leads in developing technical proposals, and take a proactive lead role in marketing clients. You must be able to market team capabilities as well as perform technical design and consulting services to a high level of satisfaction to a diverse group of clients.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage civil engineering projects from initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams
  • Prepare and review civil engineering plans, technical reports, and calculations
  • Provide technical oversight and perform quality reviews of work product
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and designers
  • Assist with proposal development, scopes, and fee estimates
  • Support business development efforts through client relationships and technical input
  • Coordinate with other Coffman offices as needed to balance workload and expertise
  • Manage project financial performance, including fee tracking and change management

Compensation and Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary - $135,000 - $155,000 annually
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • Competitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
  • Hybrid Work Schedule(subject to change)
  • 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution
Qualifications
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of U.S. professional experience (California preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • California Civil Engineer PE registration required
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Experience collaborating with local architectural/engineering community is a strong plus
  • Experience in AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Experience designing public utilities is a strong plus
  • Experience serving as a prime consultant is a plus
  • Experience with zoning entitlements and permit procurement is a plus
  • Experience attending and participating in local professional organizations
  • Experience with Energy Storage Systems is a plus
