As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Salem, NH plant, you will be a Maintenance & Engineering Manager.
The Maintenance & Engineering Manager oversees both maintenance and engineering functions while serving as the technical leader for equipment reliability, troubleshooting strategy, process optimization, and overall technical support to operations. This role bridges engineering, maintenance, and operational execution to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.
Responsible for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, this position supports automation systems, PLC troubleshooting, facility systems, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on uptime, productivity, quality, and cost reduction. The role also leads capital projects, equipment upgrades, and reliability initiatives while driving Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and operational excellence strategies.
The Maintenance & Engineering Manager develops high-performing teams, supports cross-functional operations, and champions a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities (to name a few):
- Provide strategic leadership for plant engineering, controls engineering, and maintenance functions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient asset performance.
- Lead and coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, uptime, and operational efficiency.
- Oversee troubleshooting, diagnostics, root cause analysis, and repair of manufacturing equipment, automated systems, PLC controls, electrical systems, HVAC, and compressed air systems.
- Lead and develop salaried and hourly maintenance and technical teams across the facility.
- Support controls engineering initiatives, including PLC/HMI troubleshooting, automation system improvements, equipment integration, and process optimization.
- Supervise and develop maintenance teams across multiple shifts through coaching, training, performance management, and succession planning.
- Administer and sustain the Gates TPM program while driving Lean manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives focused on OEE, uptime, productivity, and defect reduction.
- Monitor downtime trends and maintenance KPIs, identify top loss contributors, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and operational performance.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance productivity, quality, process standardization, and cost performance.
- Manage the planning and execution of capital and facility improvement projects, including equipment installations, upgrades, commissioning, procurement, automation improvements, and contractor oversight.
- Manage departmental budgets, including labor, repair costs, outside services, spare parts inventory, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Champion a "Zero Harm" safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and long-term reliability strategies to engineering and plant leadership teams while supporting KPI reporting and operational goals.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred
- 8 + years of manufacturing leadership experience, including maintenance, engineering, or operations management within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven success implementing Lean manufacturing systems and reliability programs, including TPM, 5S, Kaizen, Quick Changeover, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, and predictive/preventive maintenance strategies.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize initiatives, manage multiple projects, and drive operational results.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable safety and regulatory standards.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Flexible and responsive with the ability to support changing priorities and operational emergencies as needed.
