POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Field Technician (XRF Sampler) is responsible for performing field sampling, screening, analysis, documentation, and general project support activities for environmental and industrial projects. This position supports work on environmentally contaminated sites and may include activities involving hazardous materials, waste streams, and the use of personal protective equipment. The Environmental Field Technician (XRF Sampler) will collect samples, operate and maintain field equipment, including X-ray fluorescence (XRF) instruments, document results, and ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
- Collection of samples from environmental media, including soil, water, groundwater, and waste.
- Completion of field sampling and analysis.
- Use of XRF instruments in the field, including proper setup, operation, screening functions, documentation of readings, and routine care of equipment.
- Preparation of complete and accurate field documentation, notes, logs, and related project records.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Remedial system installation.
- Operation and maintenance support activities.
- Work on environmentally contaminated sites and around hazardous wastes and/or chemicals.
- Proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to support additional field and project-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; related environmental field experience and/or additional education or training in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Computer skills with knowledge of major word processing and spreadsheet software preferred.
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain dependable and consistent attendance.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is conducted outdoors, including during periods of inclement weather.
- Use of respiratory and other PPE may be required.
- Travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
- Overtime and/or weekend work may be required.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.
- Regular work may include exposure to dust, hazardous materials, contaminated media, and loud noise levels.
- Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned tasks.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid and appropriate state driver's license prior to employment and have a good driving history approved by KEMRON's insurance carrier that qualifies the employee to drive company vehicles.
- HAZWOPER (OSHA Hazardous Waste Operator) training preferred.
- Must pass pre-employment HAZWOPER physical, including a drug screen, if required for assigned work.
- Must understand and sign off on applicable corporate and worksite Health and Safety Plan(s).
