Job Summary

This position is responsible for procuring, auditing, validating, managing, maintaining, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting administrative, clinical, and research data for the department. The position provides analytical expertise essential to the Emergency Department's operations and decision making by departmental and health system leadership.

The position plays a vital role in identifying areas for performance/quality improvement, assessing interventional outcomes, monitoring ongoing operations, and providing information needed by faculty, investigators, staff, and others. The position requires a high level of analytical skill, independent judgement, creativity, organizational ability and communication skills. The position must balance a knowledge of patient flow and quality care with a high level of independent inquiry, problem solving, decision making, and analysis in order to support ongoing operations and the implementation and monitoring of performance/continuous quality improvement efforts as well as gathering business requirements to draft dashboards and reporting specifications. The position requires a high level of innovation, communication, analytical organization, priority setting, leadership, technical knowledge along with the ability to manage multiple projects utilizing current technology to develop and enhance processes, as well as reporting. The incumbent establishes day-to-day priorities and work guidelines to achieve accurate and timely results. Work is performed independently, under the general direction of the Emergency Department Director.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • Epic Clarity certification.
  • Master's degree in public health or related field and/or equivalent experience, training, and education.
  • Experience working with end users, cross-functional teams, and multiple levels of leadership in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience with data reporting using business intelligence and analytical software (e.g. Tableau, Crystal Reports).
  • Experience selecting and applying univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistical techniques and demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate findings accurately and effectively.
  • Experience working with EPIC's ASAP module, Reporting Workbench, and Tableau.
  • Experience with Vizient data and tools.
  • Experience with TeamSite or HTML programming, or other web site software.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Skills including; writing reporting requirement specifications, technical writing, and communicating end-user requirements with the technical development team.
  • As well as proofreading and writing skills to compose and prepare grammatically correct, clear, legible business correspondence, e-mail, forms, and reports.
  • Demonstrated independent decision-making, judgment, initiative and problem-solving skills, especially in areas where guidelines and/or policy is not always clear or applicable.
  • Advanced analytical skills to define research questions, compare data, and draw conclusions; ability to organize and analyze data systematically to report results clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and produce high quality ouput in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with a large and diverse group of executive leaders, faculty, investigators, and staff.
  • Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries.
  • Excellent organizational skills to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Strong data management experience; ability to develop and maintain multiple, complex datasets, dashboard design/development and quality improvement methodology.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge to develop a wide range of reports and make recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately produce reports, presentations and documents.

Department Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis provides a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and a total of 26 specialists of every medical and surgical specialty to treat critically ill and injured adults and children. Our team provides an extraordinary level of knowledge, skill and compassion to every patient we serve at our Level 1 Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion.

The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients in need of medical and surgical specialty physicians to treat critical and acute illnesses and injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
