Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT:

  • The Cross Trained Assistant performs CNA duties as well as clerical duties under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) and the unit manager.
  • Assists with patient care tasks such as obtaining vital signs, assists in transporting patients, pass meal trays, deliver hygiene care and answers inquiries within the scope of practice.
  • Assists nursing staff by receiving patients at the desk, taking the patient to appropriate room, gives initial instruction; assists in transporting discharged patients and answers inquiries within the scope of practice.
  • He/she may act as the unit's receptionist, assigns patient to room on board, alerts nursing staff to patient arrival, pulls and prepares chart; orders and monitors utilization of selected supplies: office, nutritional supplements, forms and retrieval chart back; assists with stocking supplies that are needed in the unit as well as assist in keeping the nursing stations clean and organized.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience in acute or long-term care.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
  • Completion of approved CNA, PCT or paramedic certification or currently enrolled in nursing school.
