Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Public Relations
Specialist I for The Graduate School of Education (
GSE). This position will support its communications and marketing function and provide innovative and creative solutions to raise its profile and bolster enrollment. To achieve this, the Specialist must proactively monitor marketing trends, forecasting and implementing emerging technologies and platforms-such as AI-driven digital marketing Answer Engine Optimization (
AEO)-to enhance recruiting and audience awareness.
Key duties of the position include:
Multi-Channel Strategy: Support development and lead in the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that integrates brand storytelling across the website, social media, publications, and digital campaigns. Content & Publication Management: Write and develop audience-specific content and manage the end-to-end production of major GSE publications, videos, and other projects. Website Maintenance: Manage the GSE website's information architecture and content updates, ensuring compliance with university policies and optimizing for user experience and conversions. Digital Marketing Execution & Tactical Support: Provide end-to-end technical and creative support for digital marketing campaigns, including building email templates in Mailchimp/Salesforce, managing audience lists, and deploying tracking tools to ensure all initiatives are executed accurately. Public Relations & Brand Stewardship: Support the school's public image by ensuring all visual and written materials meet university standards while enhancing the school's public image and reputation. Social Media Management: Oversee daily activity across all social channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), using management tools to drive engagement and monitor activity. Performance Analytics: Compile quarterly analytics reports across all digital channels and providing strategic recommendations for growth. Visual Design & Multimedia: Create high-impact visual assets-including infographics, flyers, and templates-to support school-wide events, courses, and programmatic goals. Event Management and Support: Execute high-profile events to attract prospective students, faculty, and/or donors; collaborate with internal teams to provide communications, promotional materials, and support for school-level events. Operational Execution: Manage project timelines, content calendars, and department administrative functions, including budget monitoring and research on industry trends, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates skill, knowledge, and understanding, as appropriate, of public relations, promotions, event design and production, marketing, hospitality, proofreading, writing, editing, public communications, organization, coordination, and project management.
- A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated professional experience in marketing and communications, public relations, website content management, multimedia production, digital content creation, creative writing, or e-mail marketing.

- Knowledge of graphic design, video/audio production, website management, and related software such as Adobe Express, Canva, Drupal, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong creativity and marketing skills.
- Ability to generate multiple and varied ideas.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including hands-on editorial experience in print and web content development and production.
- Familiarity with current concepts, tools, and production processes for both print and web communications.
- Effective presentation skills and client relation.
- Detail oriented with strong planning and problem-solving skills.
- Diplomatic, tactful, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Keen eye for detail and ability to produce high-quality content.
- Ability to manage entire process from ideation to realization. and many moving parts, including the timeline, production, interactions, and full lifecycle of projects.
- Ability to work with a team and independently; ability to be self-motivated.
- High degree of independent thinking and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Office 365, Google Products and
- Social Media tools.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms including Salesforce and its associated Marketing Cloud and/or ability to learn and utilize the software.

- Three or more years of experience.
- Experience managing website redesign projects, including mapping content/structure and retooling content for new web environment.
- Familiarity and experience with AEO.
- Familiarity with e-mail marketing tools such as Mailchimp.
- Experience managing engagement and content of professional social media accounts using a social media management tool such as Sprout or Hootsuite.
- Familiarity with paid Digital Marketing campaigns including Google display, Meta, instant forms, and promoted posts on Meta and LinkedIn platforms.
