| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (
OVCR) oversees, develops, supports, and grows
UNC-Chapel Hill's $1 billion research enterprise. The offices reporting to the
OVCR set strategic priorities for research, manage proposals and awards, provide research infrastructure, identify funding opportunities, develop research teams and partnerships, oversee regulatory compliance, and communicate the impact and value of the University's research enterprise. The
OVCR enables research endeavors for faculty, students, and scholars; encourages interdisciplinary research collaboration across campus; and fosters expansion and diversification of the University's sponsored research portfolio by collaborating with foundations, federal agencies, corporations, and the state and federal governments. The Vice Chancellor for Research also oversees multiple pan-University, multidisciplinary research centers and institutes. |
| Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The primary purpose of the Human Resource Consultant is to act as an HR Consultant within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research HR Service Center (
OVCR
HRSC). In this capacity, the Consultant is responsible for providing consultation and support across all employee types including faculty,
EHRA non-faculty,
SHRA employees, Postdoctoral Scholars and temporary employees. This includes providing interpretation of University HR policies, providing consultation and advice on general HR issues and concerns, and helping carry out both unit-level and campus-wide HR strategies and plans. The Consultant must be able to articulate the relationship between such policies and unit needs.
The Consultant will frequently interact and coordinate HR activity within the assigned work unit(s) with key University central offices, to include the Office of Human Resources (
OHR), the University Compliance Office, and University Payroll Services. The Consultant will prepare, approve, and/or troubleshoot proposed or implemented HR actions to assure compliance with relevant Federal, State, and University policies. The Consultant will function as a generalist covering the broad range of human resources subject matter areas including classification and compensation, recruitment and hiring, employee relations, leave administration, and handling very basic benefits inquiries in consultation, as appropriate with the University's Benefits Department. This position, along with the other HR Consultants in the
OVCR
HRSC, will have final Division Level approval authority on all HR actions. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Strong proficiency with
UNC-CH HR systems (e.g., ConnectCarolina, PeopleAdmin, Infoporte, Carolina Talent,
RASR, etc.).
* Strong working knowledge of
UNC-CH HR policies and procedures. |
