Afloat NAMTS Coordinator/Subject Matter Expert

Purpose:


  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for an Afloat NAMTS Coordinator to support the Navy Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy (NAMTS) program. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive operational and technical experience across Navy maintenance ratings, including but not limited to MM, HT, EM, GSM, GSE, MR, GM, BM, FC, IC, ET, and DC.
  • This position requires proven leadership, training, and execution at the deckplate level, with the ability to develop Sailors across a broad range of NAMTS competencies. The selected candidate will play a critical role in improving fleet self-sufficiency and readiness by developing Sailors capable of performing journeyman-level maintenance and repair tasks.

Job Description:


  • Implement and execute the NAMTS Afloat program across assigned vessels, ensuring effective delivery, administration, and technical support aligned with program objectives.
  • Lead JQR and USMAP indoctrination efforts, ensuring Sailors and leadership understand program requirements and expectations. Partner with Department Heads, Division Officers, and senior enlisted leadership to assess candidate readiness and drive qualification progress.
  • Monitor and enforce candidate progression, ensuring timely completion of JQRs, examinations, and oral boards in accordance with program standards. Coordinate and support qualification boards, ensuring proper execution and compliance.
  • Maintain oversight of NAMTS data integrity, ensuring QPR and CeTARS entries are accurate, current, and audit-ready. Support data collection, metrics tracking, and preparation of program reviews and audits.
  • Identify training gaps and program deficiencies across NAMTS competency areas and implement corrective actions to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Provide clear, concise briefings and written communication to senior leadership (O-6 / GS-15 level) on program status, risks, and performance.


  • Apply multi-discipline maintenance expertise to support training, troubleshooting, and repair across mechanical, electrical, auxiliary, combat systems, and structural domains.


  • Ensure compliance with NAVSEA requirements, safety standards, and technical directives. Execute maintenance in accordance with FWPs and CWPs.


  • Mentor and develop junior personnel, strengthening fleet maintenance capability and supporting the development of journeyman-level Sailors.


Qualifications:


  • Must have an Associate's Degree or at least 13 years of experience in operating, maintaining, repairing, and training within one or more Navy maintenance ratings (MM, HT, EM, GSM, GSE, MR, GM, BM, FC, IC, ET, DC), with demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge across multiple shipboard systems and disciplines.
  • Must have attained the rank of E-7, E-8, or E-9 in the United States Navy.
  • Must possess one or more NAMTS Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs) aligned with their primary maintenance rating, demonstrating validated journeyman-level proficiency in applicable competencies.
  • Qualifying NECs include, but are not limited to:

    • Mechanical / Auxiliary Systems: U17A (A/C & Refrigeration), U18A (Heat Exchanger), 736B (Pump Repair), 834A (Valve Repair), 761A/761C/761D (Hydraulics, Valve, Pump Repair)
    • Electrical Systems: U40A (Inside Electrical), U39A (Outside Electrical), 719B (Calibration Coordinator)
    • Gas Turbine Systems: U08A (Gas Turbine Mechanical), U11A (Gas Turbine Electrical)
    • Hull / Structural / Fabrication: U54A (Welder/Brazer), U52A (Pipefitter), U47A (Shipfitter) Machining: U33A (Inside Machinist), U34A (Outside Machinist), U33B (CNC)
    • Rigging / Corrosion Control: 797A (Rigger/Weight Handler), 860A (Corrosion Control)
    • Combat Systems / Electronics: V15C (CIWS/PGAHS), V82B (Interior Communications)
    • Equivalent or successor NECs aligned with NAMTS competency pathways will also be considered.


  • Must have extensive hands-on experience performing O-Level and/or I-Level maintenance in support of shipboard systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and operational testing.
  • Must demonstrate experience supporting one or more NAMTS competency areas, such as mechanical systems, electrical systems, auxiliary systems, hull and structural systems, corrosion control, combat systems, or interior communications.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and execute work in accordance with ship drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, and NAVSEA-approved technical references.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and make independent technical and operational decisions within established guidance, procedures, and accepted trade practices.


Desired Qualifications:


  • At least 3 years of experience supporting afloat assessments such as INSURV, ATG, or similar readiness evaluations, with demonstrated ability to assess maintenance proficiency and program execution preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in O-Level and/or I-Level maintenance environments, including responsibility for scheduling, training, and QA/QC oversight of Sailors performing maintenance and repair across multiple systems and disciplines preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a technical leader, instructor, or qualifier within a maintenance training or qualification program, with the ability to develop and validate Sailor proficiency at the journeyman level.
  • Possession of multiple NAMTS NECs across different competency areas, reflecting broad technical expertise and the ability to support cross-rating maintenance training and qualification efforts.
  • Experience with NAMTS program execution, including familiarity with JQR development and validation, QPR tracking, CeTARS reporting, and oral board coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze performance data, identify training gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve maintenance readiness and program outcomes.
  • Experience briefing senior leadership (O-6/GS-15 level) and delivering clear, concise written and verbal communication on program status, risks, and performance.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA maintenance processes, technical directives, and waterfront maintenance execution, including the use of FWPs and CWPs.
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and team development skills, with a proven ability to train, coach, and develop Sailors across multiple maintenance disciplines.


Security Requirements:


  • Must have an Active DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain it.
  • Must have and maintain a valid passport.


Travel Requirements:


  • Occasional travel - up to 35%
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:

Pay Range: $80,000 - $90,000 per year
