Position: Lab Assistant I
Work Details

  • Location: 929 Gessner Road, Houston, TX
  • Duration: 3+ months
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Work Arrangement: Onsite


Position Summary

The Lab Assistant I will work in a high-volume, production-based clinical lab environment, supporting essential lab operations and ensuring timely and accurate specimen processing.


Background & Context

  • Coverage for short staffing in the Core Lab
  • Potential for extension or conversion to a permanent employee


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and distribute clinical lab specimens
  • Prepare specimens for testing and analysis
  • Perform data entry and scan specimen/patient information
  • Ensure proper functioning of lab equipment and perform minor maintenance
  • Troubleshoot specimen-related issues
  • Replenish supplies at test benches as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Complete logs and administrative documentation
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safety and quality
  • Handle add-on requests and specimen distribution within the Core Lab


Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous medical, lab, or production experience preferred
  • Comfortable handling biological specimens
  • Ability to accurately identify specimens
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Strong attention to detail with multitasking ability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Must pass a standardized color vision test
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs


Working Conditions

  • On feet for most of the shift (mix of sitting and standing)
  • High-volume, fast-paced Core Lab environment
  • First shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Mon-Fri)


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day)
  • Short-staffed coverage role with potential conversion
  • Vaccinations:

    • Hepatitis B offered if converted to permanent
    • Flu vaccine required in October (medical/religious declination accepted)


  • Color vision test required
