Team Overview

The Legal team supports TransUnion's global business by delivering strategic legal guidance that enables innovation, manages risk, and ensures regulatory compliance across jurisdictions. This team partners closely with Global Information Security, Technology, Compliance, and business leaders to support secure, scalable operations and protect the organization. The role sits within the Legal organization, working closely with senior legal leadership and key business stakeholders. This is a remote position which may require occasional in-person attendance at work-related events at the discretion of management.

Role Overview and Core Responsibilities

This role exists to provide dedicated legal counsel for information security and cybersecurity matters, ensuring TransUnion's security practices, vendor relationships, and technology operations meet global regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Provide legal counsel on Technology Risk, Third Party Risk Management, and Information/Cybersecurity matters, ensuring alignment with global regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Advise Global Information Security, Technology, and Operations teams on domestic and international laws, regulations, and evolving compliance expectations, enabling risk-informed decision making
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders, including senior business and legal leaders, to support cybersecurity and information security initiatives and business operations
  • Collaborate with Tech Risk, Insider Threat, Vulnerability Management, and Incident Response teams to identify, assess, and mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities
  • Review, draft, and negotiate security-related contractual provisions with vendors and third parties, reducing legal and operational exposure
  • Support Global Compliance efforts by preparing for and advising on security audits, regulatory exams, and compliance reviews
  • Monitor regulatory and industry developments to proactively guide business strategy and ensure ongoing compliance
  • Provide clear, practical legal guidance to senior leaders, including the General Counsel, on cybersecurity risks and implications for the business

Required Knowledge and Experiences

  • Information Security & Cybersecurity Risk Management: Strong understanding of governance, risk assessment, and control frameworks to ensure alignment of legal advice with operational risk and compliance needs
  • Security Frameworks & Standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001/27002, PCI, SSAE 16): Ability to interpret and apply frameworks within regulated environments to guide legal and business decisions
  • Legal Background (JD + 4-6 years): Juris Doctor required with experience practicing law in financial services, insurance, technology, or similarly regulated industries-ensures ability to advise on complex regulatory and contractual matters
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior business leaders, legal peers, and cross-functional teams to drive aligned outcomes in a matrixed environment
Required Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity governance models and control frameworks (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework)
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate into actionable legal and operational guidance
  • Experience supporting security audits, regulatory engagements, and compliance processes
  • Contracting expertise related to security, data protection, and third-party risk obligations

Pay Scale Information: The U.S. base salary range for this position is $112,500.00 - $187,500 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual's education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion's annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
