Description
The part-time, temporary, Educator Mentor and Academic Learning Coach (6-12 focus) is a position that seeks to retain qualities and affordances of our established mentor program and expertise of our mentor's skill sets, while acknowledging significant year-to-year variability in mentee numbers. This position is for the 26-27 school year with primary work hours to be determined (not to exceed .20 FTE) and will work in conjunction with our full-time Educator Mentor and Academic Learning Coach. The Educator Mentor and Academic Learning Coach (6-12 focus) is a highly qualified professional educator who provides ongoing professional development and support to teachers in their first three years of the induction phase of teaching as a primary responsibility. Secondary responsibilities include academic coaching for grades 6-12. The goal is to accelerate growth to increase the effectiveness of new teachers, increase overall teacher retention, and improve student achievement through academic coaching for grades 6-12. In carrying out both primary and secondary duties, the educator mentor/academic learning coach guides teachers and teams to create learning environments and instructional practices that are equitable and accessible to all students. While the role will primarily support mentors and teachers at the 6-12 level, there will be some support of teachers at other levels, including quarterly support for mentors in years two & three of service, and support for mentors at the elementary level in years when additional supports are needed due to the number of new teachers at the elementary level. Primary Job Functions (6-12 Educator Mentor) : Facilitate and advance the professional learning of teachers in years 1-3 of their service to increase student learning. Create and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships to advance teaching practice and student learning. Utilize knowledge of standards, pedagogy, and research to advance teaching practice and student learning, including conducting classroom observations/mini-cycles focused on cycles of inquiry (plan, teach, assess, reflect) Promote professional learning for teachers for continuous improvement and student learning, including developing quarterly learning experiences for teachers in years 2-3 of service. Use assessment data to advance teaching practice and student learning. Develop as a professional leader to advance mentoring and the profession. Attend ongoing District-supported mentor training; in particular Dane County New Teacher Project two-year training experiences, the release mentor forums and Dane County District Council Meetings. Design and coordinate New Teacher Orientation for initial and new to district educators, and facilitate seminars based on needs assessments. Respect full confidentially of specific information regarding observations, conferences and communications with the new teacher. Secondary Job Functions (Academic Learning Coach 6-12): Provide professional development & coaching in leader-designated on-cycle areas at 6-12 Engage in coaching mini-cycles with teachers and teacher teams Analyze student work with teams to strategically respond to student needs in instruction Provide recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need, connecting school practice to district initiatives. Provide professional learning for cyclical curricular development to align with state standards and District Needs Assessments Other Duties Design and facilitate learning for adult learners. Demonstrate ongoing enhancement of personal knowledge base in contemporary practices, relevant content and district initiatives. Collaborate with job-alike professionals, administration, educators and colleagues within and beyond the system. Facilitate the District Steering Committee to establish and improve the District's Induction Program. The ideal candidate has at least 7 years of educator experience. Experience at the 6-12 level is strongly preferred. Possess strong interpersonal relationships or skills including respect for multiple perspectives. Demonstrate excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with initial educators, administrators, staff and the community. Model credibility with peers and administrators; respected as a model in the profession. Demonstrates knowledge of educator effectiveness standards for all staff and educators.
