I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
Writing is a central component of GW's General Education Curriculum, which requires that all undergraduates complete 4.0 credit hours of a First Year Writing seminar and at least 6.0 credit hours across Writing in the Disciplines ( WID) courses. The University Writing Program interacts with nearly 2,500 first year students. In addition, the program organizes hundreds of writing courses, events and workshops, compiling writing guidance for the campus community and managing the GW Writing Center.

The Department Operations Coordinator reports to the University Writing Program Administrative Supervisor. The person in this position primarily supports the Writing in the Disciplines ( WID) division and the First Year Writing Program. The Operations Coordinator is also the front office representative, serving as first contact for all students, faculty, staff, parents, high-level administrators, and external constituents who visit or contact the UWP. The Operations Coordinator fields questions from college advisors about UWP requirements.
Position main duties include:

  • Providing administrative support to WID
  • Coordinating with the WID director on the hiring process for the graduate and undergraduate students who support WID classes, which involves fielding requests from WID faculty for Graduate Assistants and undergraduate Peer Writing Preceptors (PWPs)
  • Tracking and assigning Graduate Assistants for roughly 50 courses per semester
  • Timekeeping and monitoring labor for roughly 15 PWPs per semester
  • Tracking WID's budget, organizing, making purchases for, and submitting expense reports for WID events
  • Updating and troubleshooting the WID database
  • Maintaining WID pages on the UWP website
  • Responding to internal and external requests for data on all aspects of WID
  • Supporting the First Year Writing division by managing daily administrative operations and communications as they arise
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with faculty and staff throughout CCAS and in the CCAS Dean's Office, and works closely with Associate Directors of advising in CCAS, SEAS, and the GWSB
  • At the direction of the Administrative Supervisor, the Operations Coordinator provides day-to-day support to faculty and Division Directors


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working Knowledge of Oracle, Banner, DataMarts, Google Applications (Google Drive, Google Forms), Concur, DegreeMap, timekeeping management systems.
  • Prior experience in a similar position.
  • Experience working in higher education administration or in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal/written communications skills.
  • Proficiency with office equipment, supply inventory and service orders.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs (Office, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with school administrators, faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budget management procedures.

Hiring Range $21.80 - $28.32
