Job Description

The MU Veterans Center serves as a resource committed to facilitating and coordinating the overall integration of veterans into our academic community through an array of services. This centrally located office is staffed by a director, one full-time staff member and several part-time VA work-study students who are former or current service members.

The University of Missouri is looking for a dynamic individual to serve as the next Director of the MU Veterans Center.

Job Description/ Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the day-to-day operations of the MU Student Veterans Center.
  • Must be a designated Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO) or pass the necessary training to be designated a VA SCO within 10 business days of hire.
  • Stay current on all federal and state legislation as well as regulations regarding higher education issues that impact military-related students.
  • Participate in related training.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the U.S. Veterans Administration, Education Office and communicate regularly with the Missouri Veterans Commission, Disabled American Veterans, the U.S. Veterans Administration, and similar organizations.
  • Ensure that student veterans and dependents are accurately advised and that their benefit requests are processed in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Work with veterans and other military-related students and families to navigate areas of admission, registration, and academics where appropriate.
  • Supervise full-time staff and oversee management of part-time student staff; including hiring, dismissing, approving time, and providing appropriate training and staff development.
  • Manage Center's budget, including programming and travel.
  • Work to increase visibility of the Veterans Center to the campus community and provide training, such as Green Zone, to the campus community.
  • Participate in the Chancellor's Military and Veterans Committee, including chairing, if requested.
  • Serve as the advisor for the MU Student Veterans Association.
  • Host and plan events on campus for veterans and military-related students.
  • Maintain MU's national reputation as a full-service, veteran friendly veterans center.
  • Collaborate with Mizzou Advancement to identify and secure fundraising opportunities for scholarships and other veteran student support services.
  • Other duties as assigned
Shift

M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's Degree
* Experience working with veterans
* Experience and/or education related to working with students in a college or university, preferably with a student affairs focus

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Rate: $60,000-$70,000/annual

Grade: GGS-010
