This full-time position involves working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Please note that our office is closed nights, weekends, and holidays. This position qualifies for a $7500 commitment incentive paid out over 3 years.

Summary:

The Medical Assistant II, Certified provides both administrative and clinical support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient cardiology setting. This is a hybrid role that combines virtual patient support responsibilities, including patient advice requests, medication refill management, results communication, and electronic message workflows, with direct clinical support and patient rooming as needed to support clinic operations. The position serves as a key resource for patient access, communication, and care coordination. Works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs virtual and in-person patient rooming and intake processes, collecting patient information including vital signs, height, weight, medication reconciliation, and data related to the patient's reason for visit.
  2. Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.
  3. Reviews patient medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacy information for accuracy.
  4. Provides administrative and clinical support to enhance patient access, communication, and care coordination.
  5. Manages live patient advice and medication refill phone lines, ensuring timely response and follow-up.
  6. Reviews, prioritizes, and responds to Epic InBasket messages, patient advice requests, and medication refill requests in accordance with established protocols and provider direction.
  7. Communicates normal test results to patients and documents all patient interactions within the electronic medical record
  8. Performs routine administrative CMA duties, including documentation, follow-up activities, scheduling support, and care coordination tasks.
  9. Performs clinical tests such as EKGs and other diagnostic procedures as directed by a provider.
  10. Provides patients with after-visit summaries, follow-up instructions, educational materials, and self-care guidance as directed.
  11. Maintains accurate and timely documentation while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  12. Ensures exam and procedure rooms are appropriately stocked and prepared for patient care activities.
  13. Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment areas.
  14. Assists with patient registration, scheduling appointments, tests, procedures, referrals, and other operational support functions.
  15. Supports clinic operations by providing clinical coverage, including patient rooming and intake activities, as needed based on staffing and operational needs.
  16. Assists in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
  17. Additional Essential Responsibilities of a Certified Medical Assistant II may include precepting new teammates and performing other duties within their scope of practice as assigned by their manager.

Education Requirements:
* None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
* Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
* Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
* Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.
* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
* Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
