Position Overview
The Financial Analyst Intermediate reports directly to the Director of Finance for Operations and provides operationalwide budgeting, accounting, reporting, and financial analysis support for KU Operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring fiscal accuracy, compliance, and effective resource management across all Operations units.

The analyst is responsible for monthly reconciliations, supporting unit leaders in staying within budget, attending financial officer meetings, and serving as the primary preparer of the annual Operations budget within University designated systems. The role supports data-driven decision making by producing clear, timely, and accurate financial reports and analysis.

Job Description
70% - Financial Management & Reporting
  • Develops, prepares, and monitors administrative budgets across KU Operations under the guidance of the Director of Finance for Operations.
  • Manages and tracks all sources of funding ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Conducts indepth financial analyses to optimize resource use, support sustainability, and improve longrange planning efforts across Operations units.
  • Utilizes university financial systems such as Oracle Financials, Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC), OneSource, and Concur to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and effective workflow execution.
  • Supports the Director, unit leadership, and the HR Business Partner in evaluating fiscal impacts of personnel transactions.
  • Assists Senior Accountant with complex accounting functions for Operations including all capital projects, bond fund management, journal entries, fund transfers, and annual closeout processes.
  • Provides accounting support via direction from the Director of Finance for Operations to university administrative partners such as Procurement and the Shared Service Center to ensure accurate processing, purchasing activity, and other financial matters across Operations.
30% - External Reporting, Systems Management & Financial Oversight
  • Prepares accurate, timely, and actionable financial and budget reports for Operations leadership to support datadriven decision making.
  • Completes fiscal reporting required by university administration and external agencies.
  • Implements and supports ongoing improvements to financial planning, budget development, and fiscal management processes.
  • Oversees accounting functions within OAC and Maximo databases; develops and maintains procedures for invoicing, payment tracking, financial reporting, and database integrity.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to systems, procedures, and reporting tools that improve accuracy, efficiency, and system connectivity across Operations units.
  • Enters and updates forecasting and budgeting information
  • Recommends adjustments to financial and operational policies in response to evolving business needs and system enhancements.
  • Confirm funding and sign off on strategic hiring forms.

Position Requirements
  • Primarily sedentary work, involving sitting for extended periods.
  • Occasional walking to different locations within the office or campus.
  • Ability to lift and carry light objects, such as files or documents, if needed.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of related experience or HS diploma and seven (7) years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience in budget and financial analysis as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Degree in business, finance, accounting, higher education, public administration, or related field.
  2. Strong time-management and organizational skills and self-motivated as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Demonstrated experience with the structure, policies, and procedures of the University of Kansas Lawrence campus as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Experience using PeopleSoft system(s) for HR/Payroll and/or Financials, version 9.0 or higher.
