Ball State University Information Technology is hiring an Accessibility Remediation Specialist to help lead one of the most meaningful compliance efforts on campus. This role puts you at the center of Ball State's Title II digital accessibility initiative, managing a team of student assistants, shaping university-wide workflows, and ensuring that everyone can fully engage with the university's digital resources. From remediating course materials and documents to video captioning and web assets, no two days look the same. You'll collaborate with departments across campus, develop operating procedures, and have a real hand in building a more inclusive Ball State. What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function:

The Accessibility Remediation Specialist is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Information Technology's Title II remediation efforts, ensuring Ball State University meets federal digital accessibility mandates. This role serves as the primary project manager for a team of student assistants, overseeing the remediation of Canvas course materials, departmental PDFs, video captions, web assets, and more. Beyond student supervision, this position collaborates with campus stakeholders to identify non-academic resource gaps and develops workflows to ensure university-wide digital assets remain compliant. By combining technical expertise with project leadership, this position plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive digital campus for all students, faculty, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Student Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise a team of student remediation assistants, providing ongoing mentorship and quality control for their work.

2. Workflow Management: Develop and maintain standardized operating procedures for remediating diverse asset types, including PDFs, Canvas courses, and multimedia.

3. Project Coordination: Manage the intake, prioritization, and tracking of remediation requests from academic departments and administrative offices across Ball State.

4. Title II Compliance Monitoring: Support the Training and Accessibility Coordinator in auditing campus tools to ensure they meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and the 2024 ADA Title II Final Rule requirements.

5. Quality Assurance: Perform final technical reviews of student-remediated assets to ensure high accuracy in captioning, proper tagging in PDFs, and functional screen-reader compatibility.

6. Software Administration & Support: Serve as an administrator for campus platforms for media management, captioning, web testing, accessibility, etc.

7. Resource Development: Create and update internal documentation, checklists, and training guides to stay current with evolving accessibility technologies and federal regulations.

8. Reporting & Data Analysis: Maintain detailed records of remediation progress, including volume of assets processed and hours logged, to provide regular status updates to University leadership.

9. Regulatory Advocacy: Stay informed of emerging accessibility trends and legal updates, ensuring that workflows adapt proactively to compliance standards.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by the date of appointment. Or, in lieu of a Bachelor's degree:

* Associate's degree plus an additional combination of education or experience equivalent to two years.

Or

* High school diploma or GED plus an additional combination of education or experience equivalent to four years.

Two years of experience in digital accessibility, instructional technology, or a closely related field. This experience must include a demonstrated mastery of WCAG 2.1 AA standards and hands-on expertise with remediation software.

Prior experience as a supervisor.

Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a higher education environment. Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System. Experience in digital media, technical writing, or web design is a plus, as is any prior experience using assistive technologies.
