Wieland is hiring a Quality Technician. The Quality Technician will be responsible for coordinating the activities of employees engaged in containment activities throughout the Mill Products operation to ensure defective products do not reach the customer. They will have regular engagement with employees to ensure activities are occurring and opportunities for improvement are being identified and completed. They should apply knowledge of products, processes, and production methods to ensure the production of quality products. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $76,000 annually

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Core Accountabilities

    Ensure vision maps are accurate and thorough to provide the best opportunity for successful containment. Drive a closed loop process for yield improvements by communicating chronic issues or issues of concern utilizing data to drive improvements
  1. Instruct and coach employees in the proper operating, quality and safety procedures for each position in sphere of influence. Instruct employees on the use of quality tools to drive process improvements, especially in slitting and inspection areas. Support activities that push containment upstream to drive quality at the source activities.
  2. Establish and enforce performance levels and expectations in areas of safety, quality and productivity. Assist in improving safety performance in the plant and active participation in driving safety improvements.
  3. Support and encourage employee involvement in continuous improvement activities including Safety Excellence, Maintenance Excellence, and Lean Manufacturing. Support needs of the ISO business system via adherence to calibration schedules, properly dispositioning non-conforming material, and executing other supporting tasks as needed.
  4. Confirm products conform to specifications and direct setup and adjustments of machines as required to meet product specifications. Contribute to and support the standard work of the department while identifying areas of non value-added work or waste that can be eliminated. Drive improvements for shift-to-shift transitions within the department.

Competencies and Qualifications

  1. Required: Associates degree in Science or Technology OR 5 yrs manufacturing experience.
    Preferred: Technical, Manufacturing or Business bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years manufacturing supervision experience.
  2. Familiar with manufacturing, safety and quality concepts, practices and procedures.
  3. Ability to communicate (verbal and written) technical information and strong organizational skills.
  4. Strong skill set in ISO 9001 requirements is preferred.
