DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Semi-Skilled Laborer supports many maintenance and groundskeeping needs across Norristown State Hospital. This role involves physical tasks, teamwork, and a willingness to assist multiple shops and departments as needed. As a Semi-Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:
- General Maintenance: Carry out assigned tasks in areas such as plumbing, painting, electrical work, and carpentry
- Road and Walk Repair: Perform roadwork including fixing blacktop, sidewalks, parking lots, curbing, and gutters
- Grounds Care: Operate grass-cutting equipment, rake leaves, remove trash, and assist with landscaping tasks
- Snow Removal: Shovel snow from walkways, fire exits, and parking areas during winter weather
- Equipment Support: Help maintain laundry equipment, replace light bulbs, and assist skilled trades in repair work
- Site Cleaning: Clean piping systems, machinery rooms, sewer areas, and other work sites around the facility

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This may changed based on operational need.
- Overtime and travel as operationally necessary
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
