THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides travelers with accurate information and resources to help them plan their visit to Pennsylvania. The primary focus is to support Welcome Center operations and help maintain clear communication with staff and guests. As a Tourist Information Counselor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Visitor Assistance: Greet guests, provide travel information, and answer questions about Pennsylvania

  • Center Operations: Open and close the Welcome Center and keep displays and supplies organized

  • Information Management: Maintain accurate reports, inventories, and literature supplies for daily operations

  • Tourism Outreach: Support special programs, travel shows, and familiarization tours that promote statewide tourism

  • Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, attend training opportunities, and report hazards to protect coworkers and the public

  • Communication Support: Share updates, questions, and concerns with supervisors to improve center operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours/biweekly
  • This position works a 6-week rotating schedule. Scheduled days and hours will vary. Temporary hours of operation are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, seven days per week.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in work involving public contact; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in and commute to Delaware County PennDOT Welcome Center: I-95 North: I-95 northbound, 1/2 mile north of PA/DE border, Linwood.
  • You must have the ability to report to work within 1 hour of being called in.
  • You must have front facing public contact experience.
  • You must have experience working with computers.
  • You must have experience answering phones, composing emails, compiling reports, tracking office activities and inventory, entering data, and filing.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Five or more years of full-time experience in work involving front facing public contact.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
