DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a wide variety of vehicles and equipment that support transportation operations. It involves hands-on mechanical work, diagnostics, and proper documentation. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Mechanical Repair: Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, electrical systems, and body components
- Preventative Care: Carry out scheduled maintenance to keep machinery safe and reliable
- Inspections: Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and prepare required paperwork
- Diagnostics: Troubleshoot mechanical issues using tools and diagnostic equipment to identify needed repairs
- Equipment Support: Service motorized hand tools and construction equipment to ensure proper function
- Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report hazards or injuries promptly

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
- This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
