Position Overview
| Primary Purpose of Position |
This is a 12- month non-tenure track research faculty appointment.
Primary responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining a research program through interdisciplinary collaborations leading to grant writing and publications; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in family and consumer sciences, in the gerontology area in particular; participating in curriculum development; engaging in accreditation procedures, program coordination, and program assessment; serving on department, college and university committees and participating in other research and academic functions. |
| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (
AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations; child development, early education and family studies (B-K licensure); consumer sciences; fashion merchandising and design; food and nutritional sciences (food science); and food and nutritional sciences (nutrition and pre-medicine in nutrition). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, an online Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development, early education, and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), an online Advanced Certificate in family and consumer sciences, an online certificate in family financial planning, a graduate certificate in human lactation pathway 2, and a graduate certificate in food quality, safety, and protection. Faculty are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, gerontology, apparel, textiles, child development, and family issues. Further, a Ph.D. program in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with a Food Science, Human Nutrition and Health is offered through the College. |
| Minimum Requirements |
Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Gerontology or a related discipline from an accredited university. A specialization in social gerontology or sociological perspectives on the life course. A record of research excellence as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and strong record of grant writing and extramural funding or significant scholarship. |

The candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to gerontology and family and consumer sciences core courses; effective oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills; experience advising and mentoring students; strong technology skills.
