Job Overview

The Technical Representative - Rock Tools provides onsite technical support to customers utilizing rock drilling tools, including diamond coring bits and related exploration tooling. This role is responsible for optimizing product performance through field servicing, failure analysis, product trials, and customer training.

Acting as a key liaison between the field and internal teams (engineering, product management, and sales), this position drives continuous product improvement, enhances customer satisfaction, and supports successful drilling outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service & Technical Support



  • Conduct onsite inspections, servicing, and performance evaluations of rock tools, including diamond bits, core barrels, and drill rods
  • Provide real-time technical support to resolve operational issues and minimize downtime


Tooling Diagnostics & Optimization



  • Analyze tool wear and performance to identify root causes of failure or inefficiency
  • Recommend corrective actions to improve tool life, penetration rates, and overall drilling efficiency


Customer Training & Engagement



  • Deliver hands-on training to drilling crews and contractors on proper product use, handling, and maintenance
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through consistent technical support and field presence


Field Trials & Product Validation



  • Support new product introductions by setting up and monitoring field trials
  • Collect, analyze, and report performance data to validate product effectiveness


Product Feedback & Reporting



  • Document service activities, performance issues, and customer feedback using internal systems
  • Communicate insights to engineering and product teams to support continuous improvement


Inventory & Equipment Management



  • Maintain service kits, demo inventory, and specialized field equipment required for diagnostics and support


All other reasonable duties as assigned

Key Skills & Competencies



  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to troubleshoot rock tools, diagnose wear patterns, and identify performance issues
  • Customer Focus: Service-oriented mindset with the ability to build credibility and trust with field personnel and customers
  • Problem Solving: Ability to work independently in remote environments to diagnose and resolve technical challenges
  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication for training, reporting, and cross-functional coordination
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of rock drilling operations, tooling systems, and exploration challenges
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in dynamic field conditions, including remote locations and varying weather environments


Qualifications



  • Education :
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical training or certification in mechanics, drilling systems, or a related trade preferred
  • Experience :
  • 2-5 years of field experience in drilling services, tooling support, or heavy equipment maintenance
  • Experience with rock tools, diamond drilling, or exploration tooling strongly preferred
  • Languages : English required; Spanish is an asset


Physical and Environmental Conditions



  • Work Environment :
  • Primarily field-based at remote exploration sites
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
  • Occasional work in shop or warehouse environments
  • Lifting Requirements :
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 75 lbs regularly
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
