About the Job

The Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation at the University of Minnesota is hiring a Post-Doctoral Associate. The successful candidate for this position will work under the supervision of UMN co-leads for the NIA-supported GECC project. The position will entail developing guidance around the creation and use of residential histories and creating measures of safety and emergency services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The postdoctoral associate will collaborate with UMN co-leads and the GECC team to develop measures and guidance to advance our understanding of the AD/ADRD exposome and to disseminate this information via dataset creation and the development, writing, presentation, and publishing of articles that describe these efforts, among other responsibilities. The specific focus of the research will be decided in collaboration with UMN co-leads and the GECC team, but will generally focus on residential histories and community services, especially safety and emergency services. As part of these efforts, the postdoctoral associate will meet with UMN co-leads and/or other members of the GECC team once per week in virtual and/or in-person meetings to coordinate research and dissemination activities.

The successful candidate will also engage more generally in ISRDI's rich interdisciplinary intellectual environment. This may include attending research seminars and workshops; participating in LCC/MPC research development programming; developing professional connections with other projects based at ISRDI; and other activities at ISRDI.

Appointment Details:

  • This is a 100%, 12-month, annually renewable appointment. The candidate will start between July 2026 and August 2026, with continuation up to two more years based on available funding and performance.
  • The successful candidate would devote 90% of their effort to collaborative and independent research related to the GECC and 10% of their time to other independent and collaborative research (e.g., publishing dissertation articles, other ongoing projects).

This position has been designated as eligible for flexible work profile(s) [type of work profile 1-4.

  • Profile 1, Office Lab-Based - is expected to work primarily on-site in the office/lab. Only occasionally and inconsistently working remotely. Your office will be located in 50 Willey Hall, 225 19th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55445.
  • Profile 2, Regularly Remote - is expected to work in the office/lab at least 3 days per week. Typically working remotely 1-2 days per week. Your office will be located in 50 Willey Hall, 225 19th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55445.
  • Profile 3, Mostly Remote - is expected to typically work in the office/lab 1-2 days per week. Working remotely at least 3 days per week. Your dedicated office space will be in your remote work location.
  • Profile 4, Fully Remote - Only occasionally visiting the office. Typically spends 4 or less days per month working in the office/lab on average. Your dedicated office space will be in your remote work location.

ISRDI management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* Doctoral degree in a field relevant to geospatial data science

* Strong record of scholarly publication

* Strong data management and geospatial skills, with programming experience with Python, R, or similar

* Excellent English skills for academic writing

* Ability to advance science independently and also as part of collaborative teams

* Interest in fostering an inclusive environment and appreciation of differences in the workplace

* The selected candidate must have, or be able to acquire, Special Sworn Status, to work in the Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC), of the Census Bureau

Preferred Qualifications

* Research experience or interest examining the long-term effects of contexts (e.g. social, environmental, policy) on health and well-being

* Experience with safety and emergency services data and measures

* Knowledge of and experience managing changing geographic boundaries in the U.S.

* Experience working with a variety of kinds of data (e.g., geospatial, social, and/or environmental data)

* Experience working in highly interdisciplinary working groups

This postdoctoral position is hosted within the Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation (ISRDI) at the University of Minnesota, which has more than 200 faculty, research staff, and student affiliates from two dozen academic units. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $62,232- $68,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
