Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States is $71,082 - $94,177.82. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training.

Join Our Team as a Product Designer!

Are you passionate about Product Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Product Engineering function. As a Product Designer you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Product Designer is a vital part of our engineering support team, responsible for creating and modifying 3D models and designs for both new and existing electrical product assemblies and components. This role requires proficiency in CAD systems, specifically 3D modeling and a practical understanding of design principles and fabrication techniques. The position involves hands-on work, troubleshooting, and collaboration with production teams to ensure effective design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create 3D models of new and existing assemblies and components using Solid Edge.
  • Design new assemblies and components to meet specified mechanical and electrical functionality.
  • Troubleshoot complex shop problems with Production Support Requests (PSR's) and developing solutions to design issues.
  • Provides support to the production team by addressing design-related concerns and implementing necessary changes.
  • Write engineering change orders (ECOs) to document print changes and release new prints. Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation in compliance with company standards.
  • Update complex prototype assemblies using basic hand tools such as wrenches or machine tools like a drill press or belt sander.
  • Procure components from the SMC model shop or external suppliers as needed for prototype development.

  • Create simple single-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) in 3DX, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct basic quality checks on prototypes and components to ensure they meet design specifications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, production and quality assurance to support project goals and timelines.
  • Support other product designers with their work and train junior designers on a departmental practices.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

  • Associate degree in Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in product design or a related role that focuses on 3D modeling.
  • Basic understanding of S&C or similar industry products and familiar with the industry standards in product design and manufacturing.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD, modeling and good drafting skills using standard software tools.
  • Ability to use product lifecycle management software for revision control of parts and assemblies.
  • Practical knowledge of basic design principles and fabrication techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Effective verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with project team members, project stakeholders and outside suppliers.

  • Understanding and application of basic tolerancing plus Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking and handling materials and tools.
  • Capable of performing hands-on work, including assembly and prototyping.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365 applications, including proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

Preferred:

  • Basic understanding of electrical components and their integration into mechanical designs.
  • Experience with SolidEdge ST9 or newer.
  • Experience with 3DExperience.
