As an Electrical Engineering Manager in the Military Aircraft Group, you will lead the design and development of Flight Control Computers and Actuation Control Electronics for use in Moog flight control systems. In this role, you will manage a team of approximately 20 engineers, serving as a senior technical leader responsible for ensuring the successful execution of advanced defense programs. You will balance technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery while fostering team growth in a high-security, mission-critical environment.

You will be responsible for allocating engineering resources across projects, managing the performance and development of your direct reports, and continuously improving engineering processes to meet program milestones. In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will spend roughly half of your time contributing directly to active projects alongside your team.

Reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager, this position is based on-site in Torrance, CA and offers a 9/80 work schedule.

Here's what you will be doing on a day-to-day basis:

  • Team Management: Lead, develop, and mentor engineering teams; manage staffing, performance, and career development. Manage escalations, influence and/or contribute to solutions to resolve technical challenges to meet contractual delivery schedules.

  • Manage Development Execution: define and control schedules, budgets, risk registers, technical baselines, and design change processes.

  • Program & Cost Management: LeadCost Account Manager (CAM) managing budgets, staff oversight, and program labor control. Drive technical excellence while balancing cost and schedule constraints.

  • Full Lifecycle Management: Guide teams through design, verification, integration, production, and sustainment product development phases.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate high performance outcomes with program leadership, technical leads, customers, and suppliers to align engineering support with mission needs.

  • Process & Quality: Ensure adherence to engineering development processes, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Here's what you will need to bring with you, to be considered for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronics engineering or related field; Master's preferred.

  • 10+ years of electronics design experiencein aerospace, defense, or related high-reliability industries;5+ years of people or technical leadership.

  • Hands-on experience with analog & digital circuit design, PCB layout practices and hardware design verification.

  • Familiarity with MIL/avionics standards(MIL-STD, DO-160, MIL-STD-461, AS9100) and environmental qualification testing.

  • Experience with FPGA/SoC and embedded firmware developmentincluding integration with hardware teams.

  • Strong program management skills: schedule control, risk management, requirement traceability, and documentation.

  • Proficiency with CAD and simulation tools(e.g., Altium/Cadence/OrCAD, SPICE, signal-integrity tools).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain active security clearance(ITAR awareness required).

It would also be great if you had:

  • Experience with low-SWaP and ruggedized designfor harsh environments.

  • Familiarity with DO-178/DO-254 conceptsor working with safety-critical software/hardware teams.

  • Supplier management and contract experience(NRE, COTS evaluation, lead-time mitigation).

  • Excellent written & oral communication, able to present technical material to customers and senior leadership.

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $175,000.00-$220,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
