Position summary: Responsible for leading, overseeing, or performing engineering highway design using advanced knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor and mentor to less experienced engineers.
Compensation is $140,000 to $170,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and licensure.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Lead the design for multiple concurrent projects and tasks for your discipline.
- Assist Project Manager with consultative services to the client by understanding client requirements, recommendations, and solutions to enhance client experience.
- Attends client or stakeholder meetings or interviews in support of project manager.
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Design transportation improvements for roadways, interchanges, intersection improvements, sidewalks and trail projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop solutions to complex problems and share best practices/lessons learned on a wide scale (company, client, or industry)
- Defining parameters, reviewing, and presenting alternative studies based on experience and advanced engineering knowledge.
- Prepare or lead the preparation of highway engineering documents, technical reports, memos, etc.
- Evaluate and collaborate on discipline's workflow and standard operating procedures to increase efficiency.
- Perform and check design computations.
- Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
- Provide cross disciplinary and constructability reviews on complex projects.
- Providing input to project manager and section head with scope development, work hours for tasks, and project schedule creation for discipline.
- Manage and lead work to meet provided project schedule and budget relevant to discipline.
- Coordinate and collaborate with team members and other disciplines to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
- Delegate project work to design engineers, coordinate project requirements, and perform quality reviews.
- Mentor and coach on technical knowledge to advance their skill development and advise on project design.
- Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department

Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
- 10 + years of experience
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and be on-track to obtain a PE License within one year.
- Proficient in Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Civil3D
- Experience generating plans, specifications, and estimates for highway/roadway projects for NJDOT and County Projects
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Experience
- Specific discipline certifications
- Professional Engineer License
- Experience working with New Jersey Turnpike
Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
