What to Expect
We are looking for a highly skilledDesign Manager, withStructuralEngineeringfocus,who is passionate about our mission to join our energy infrastructure engineering team with focus on cell manufacturing and R&D improvements. In this role,we are looking for 50% design management and 50% structural engineering design experience on Revit/CAD. You will be asked to own and drive the full design and engineering efforts for construction and infrastructure development from concept to build. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, construction and project management. The role requires a highly organized mindset, a passion for driving multi-disciplinary projects, and an unparalleled ability to pull people together to make things happen. This role requires you to be extremely detail oriented, identify real hard barriers and drive the cross-functional teams to execute quickly at high quality. You will drive collaboration between Engineering disciplines, Construction, R&D, operations to ensure our team's goals are aligned with company priorities. We are a demanding and fast-paced environment, so being self - motivated and disciplined is critical.

What You'll Do
  • Structural Design: Perform analyses, feasibility studies, designs, and detailing for new/existing structures

  • Document Development: Assist in creating drawings, BIM models, calculations, proposals, reports, and preliminary concepts for quotes

  • Design Review Management: Organize design reviews, construction packages (scope, kick-off, MDR, 30-90%, IFP, IFC); prepare IFP for quick projects

  • Strategy Definition: Define approaches for overall design/engineering deliverables, including construction and permit packages

  • Project Ownership: Lead full design/engineering efforts from concept to delivery to achieve aggressive goals

  • Permitting & Docs: Manage permitting, construction documents, transmittals, RFIs, and customer requests

  • Funding & Scheduling: Own project funding requests and coordinate schedules with construction team based on procurement needs

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Understand requirements, translate to deliverables; distill, document, and manage scope in dynamic environments

  • Technical Management: Oversee planning, scope development, change management, programming, design, and engineering during construction

  • Team & Innovation: Build cross-functional relationships; apply delivery methods, lean principles, BIM; implement innovations; solve complex problems objectively; influence without authority


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or the equivalent in experience; PE license is preferred

  • Experience Level: 7+ years of professional experience in structural engineering

  • Design Expertise: Proven experience designing manufacturing, industrial, R&D facilities, workplaces, and site infrastructure

  • Coordination Skills: Experience coordinating with MEP disciplines, AHJs, subcontractors, and third-party consulting firms

  • Project Delivery: Demonstrated record in delivering IFB, IFP, and IFC packages

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in CAD/Revit; experience with process piping preferred

  • Project Management: Strong skills in applying project/program management fundamentals to complex problems; ability to execute multiple projects/tasks in parallel; construction project management experience a plus

  • Communication Abilities: Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to distill complex problems into clear plans and engage technical/non-technical stakeholders effectively

  • Soft Skills and Mindset: Positive, enthusiastic, fast learner with a can-do attitude; passionate about complex infrastructure; thrives under pressure in ambiguous environments

  • Work Requirements: On-site 5 days/week with flexibility for Bay Area travel; willingness to travel across North America/Tesla sites, including long hours, evenings, and weekends as needed

    Expected Compensation
    $108,000 - $210,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
