Currently recruiting Registered Nurses to provide nursing services in the Orthopedic Department at Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California. Services will be provided Monday through Friday, normally between 6: 00 a.M. And 6: 00 p.M. Shifts will normally be scheduled as 8.5-, 9.5-, or 10.5-hour periods, including a 60-minute unpaid lunch break. This position supports orthopedic patient care, clinical coordination, patient education, documentation, and performance improvement in a military medical center environment.
DUTIES OF THE REGISTERED NURSE:
- Provide a full range of nursing services consistent with education, training, experience, clinical privileges or credentials, and assigned orthopedic department duties.
- Perform patient assessments and support safe, effective care for orthopedic patients.
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
- Administer medications, perform wound care, and provide individualized nursing interventions as appropriate.
- Obtain health histories and support patient care planning.
- Provide health promotion, counseling, and patient education.
- Communicate and collaborate with patients, families, providers, nurses, corpsmen, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and respond quickly in emergency patient situations.
- Maintain a level of productivity comparable with others performing similar services.
- Practice aseptic technique as necessary.
- Comply with infection control guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious waste and use of universal precautions.
- Function with awareness and application of safety procedures.
- Apply awareness of legal issues in patient care and manage situations in a reduced-risk manner.
- Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights within the Military Treatment Facility.
- Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
- Participate in the command s Performance Improvement Program, including meetings to evaluate care, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend corrective action.
- Participate in continuing education and in-service training.
- Assist with training and clinical direction for supporting government healthcare workers, including hospital corpsmen and students, as applicable.
- Attend and participate in meetings as directed.
- Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
- Operate and document in automated systems such as ADS and MHS GENESIS, as applicable.
- Maintain documentation of treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE REGISTERED NURSE:
- Associate Degree of Nursing required.
- Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Minimum of one year of experience within the last two years as a Registered Nurse.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any U.S. Jurisdiction.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Orthopedic nursing, ambulatory clinic, surgical clinic, or military healthcare experience preferred.
- Must be able to complete required credentialing before providing services.
- Must be able to complete required health, immunization, tuberculosis, and Hepatitis B screening requirements before providing services.
- Must be able to complete required background/security processes, including fingerprinting and childcare background check requirements, for access to a Navy and Defense Health Agency medical facility.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
- Must comply with all applicable facility policies, procedures, training, safety, infection control, documentation, and patient privacy requirements.
