Overview
Utah State University's Office of Data and Analytics is seeking a skilled and motivated Business Intelligence Analyst with 2+ years of experience to join our growing team. This role designs, builds, and maintains interactive dashboards and reports using modern analytics and data visualization tools. The BI analyst partners with stakeholders to gather business intelligence requirements, supports recurring and ad-hoc reporting needs, and translates complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that inform institutional decision-making. This position emphasizes front-end analytics and dashboard development and includes collaboration with data engineering and data quality teams but will not be responsible for back-end development or data remediation.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, is passionate about turning data into actionable insights, and has experience working within modern data analytics platforms.

Responsibilities
80% of the time
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Support institutional ad-hoc and recurring internal reporting requests, partnering with other analysts on the team to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Translate complex data sets into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders across academic and administrative units.
  • Meet with stakeholders to determine business intelligence data needs.
  • Document analytical processes, data sources, and report logic to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

20% of the time
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure access to structured, modeled, and high-quality data.
  • Contribute to metadata enrichment by providing descriptive and operational context for published reports.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline (work equivalency accepted)
  • 2+ years of professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in modern analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Strong SQL skills and experience querying structured data from relational databases.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets in a structured analytics environment.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, especially around metadata, data quality, and access controls.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education or public sector analytics.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, DBT, or similar cloud-based data platforms.
  • Understanding of role-, attribute-, and purpose-based access models.
  • Familiarity with higher education data and reporting processes.
  • Exposure to DAMA-DMBOK or similar data management frameworks.
  • Experience contributing to AI-readiness initiatives through structured data and metadata practices.
