Manager - Investment Research & Writer, Global Investment Research

The Global Investment Research (GIR) team is a client-facing investment research group, within the Equity and Multi-Asset business vertical of FTSE Russell, with team members in the Americas, EMEA and APAC. The team publishes insights on current market dynamics across global regions and asset classes (e.g., equities, equity factors, fixed income, multi-asset, cross-asset, wealth, asset allocation, portfolio construction dynamics). Our analysis is based primarily on data from FTSE Russell indices, along with other LSEG data sets and some external data sources.

Our research, by way of regular reports, topical commentaries and deep-dive empirical research, and our research presentations to clients and the investment and wealth ecosystem, enhances our engagement with clients, including asset owners, asset managers, ETF issuers and wealth channels.

Role Purpose and responsibilities

The Investment Research Writer, based in New York, is a mid-level Manager role responsible for (a) the technical investment writing /editing of all GIRs reports and blogs to maintain editorial consistency. (b) co-authoring research reports and papers with guidance from senior team members (c) contributing to new ideas, reports and research pieces.

The role reports directly to Director - GIR in Americas, and involves working closely with all team members and research leads spread across US, EMEA and APAC.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take ownership for investment writing, proof-reading and editing regularly scheduled reports, and research papers, in coordination with GIRs research leads, to ensure editorial consistency in writing style and formats and adhering to Compliance guidelines.

  • Co-author research reports, and write blogs that spin-off from the reports to broaden exposure of the reports.

  • Coordinate closely with GIR data engineers and research leads, and with Group marketing and publishing department.

  • Ability to take research ideas and data from the research analysts and build concisely written and impactful research pieces.

Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with and interest in financial markets required. Experience with analysis and reports on different asset classes and geographic markets would be highly preferable.

  • Subject matter expertise in equity is required, and expertise across multi-assets would be a great plus. An interest and ability to conduct investment research in equities, with a particular focus on all parts of US equities and equity factors would be great.

  • 5-10 years' experience in financial editorial or investment writing role. Consistent track record to produce clear and concise technical investment writing in English. Ability to write research reports, blogs and market commentary, and research papers in clear, concise language is essential.

  • Ability to present research findings, starting with key internal stakeholders. Possibly expanding later to presentations to external clients too.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite. Experience working with index data and financial datasets would be a great plus.

  • Ability to do simple data analytics, charting in a financial platform like LSEG Workspace or similar data platforms would be a great plus.

  • Undergraduate degree in financial journalism, finance, economics or business management preferred. A CFA would be a great plus.

  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-motivation needed to work efficiently in a global team. Ability to adhere to strict publishing timelines/deadlines. This role requires working closely with research analysts in different geographic locations across US, EMEA and APAC. Ability to absorb data and ideas from research analysts and transform them into well written investment research, handling editorial responsibilities is key.

Compensation/Benefits Information:

LSEG is committed to offering competitive Compensation and Benefits. The anticipated base salary for this position is $155,300 - $258,900. Please be aware base salary ranges may vary by geographic location, city and state. In addition to our offered base salary, this role is eligible for our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP/"bonus plan"). Target AIP rates will be commensurate with role level and posted career stage. Individual salary will be reflective of job related knowledge, skills and equivalent experience. LSEG roles (excluding internships and part-time roles of less than 20 hours per week) are typically eligible for inclusion in our LSEG Benefits program, which includes offerings of: Annual Wellness Allowance, Paid time-off, Medical, Dental, Vision, Flex Spending & Health Savings Options, Prescription Drug plan, 401(K) Savings Plan and Company match.
