This position is for a critical member of our Advanced Surgical division's R&D team, based in Denver, CO. The engineer will have immediate opportunities to contribute to new product development with a focus on minimally invasive surgical technologies designed to deliver real benefits to surgeons, hospitals and their patients. Advanced Surgical products include:
- Advanced insufflation systems
- Advanced energy systems
- Advanced smoke management systems
- Laparoscopic surgical instruments
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design of high-quality, reliable, disposable and/or capital medical products for use in surgical procedures, focusing on projects with moderate complexity.
- Engage in multiple phases of the product development lifecycle, including design, development, component procurement, assembly, verification, validation, and manufacturing, ensuring compliance with medical device standards and regulations.
- Complete conceptual designs, detailed designs, CAD modeling, prototyping, and troubleshooting to support the development and refinement of products.
- Contribute to the development of comprehensive test protocols, detailed reports, and compelling presentations, all related to design activities.
- Conduct design analyses including theoretical calculations for component fit and tolerance analysis and stress calculations.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles and use data to support design decisions, with guidance as needed.
- Conduct verification and validation testing.
- Contribute to the creation of project schedules, securing cross-functional buy-in from the project team.
- Present technical concepts and design solutions to cross-functional teams, other engineers, and the direct manager.
- Contribute to procedural updates and best practices.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to understand their needs and define clear project requirements, ensuring alignment and successful project outcomes.
- Support compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners and team members, contributing to a respectful and supportive team environment.
- Actively seek feedback and develop technical skills with guidance from senior engineers.
- Take time to understand the problem, requirements, and constraints before executing design tasks.
- Contribute to practical, manufacturable design solutions while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Deliver assigned work with quality and accountability, communicating progress and issues in a timely manner.

- 3-5+ years engineering work experience required
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or highly related field) requir
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Proficiency in 3-D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Experience using Minitab
- Strong technical communication and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate knowledge of statistics
- Working knowledge of GD&T and creating engineering drawings
- Intermediate knowledge of designing for manufacturing, such as machining, injection molding, and assembly
- Exposure to working in a regulated environment, such as FDA 21 CFR 820 or similar
- Intermediate knowledge of FEA / CFD tools
- Experience applying structured problem-solving methods (e.g., root cause analysis)

The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill level. The salary range is CONMED's good faith belief at the time of this posting.
