Overview
NaphCare is hiring a Nurse Manager to join our team of medical professionals in Detroit, Michigan, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Wayne County Jail. As a Correctional Nurse Manager, you will work alongside correctional staff and other medical professionals to provide quality care to the individuals in residence ensuring all nursing care is performed in compliance to standards and adherence to regulations. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities
The Nurse Manager provides direct patient care, staff management, and administrative duties, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the incarcerated population. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
Collaborating with medical, mental health and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment
- Recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating nursing staff, ensuring competency and adherence to policies
- Effectively communicating with healthcare staff and correctional staff to coordinate patient care with providers outside of the facility
- Monitoring compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards
- Manages the daily operations of the medical unit, including scheduling, budgeting, and record-keeping, ensuring adequate nursing coverage for all shifts
- Ensuring all heath care related equipment and supplies, including pharmaceuticals and over the counter medications, are appropriately stocked and available at all times
- Maintaining current and accurate patient records and documentation
- Developing staff, conducting in-service training for new and current staff
- Conducting daily clinical rounds to all designated areas of responsibility to observe and review documentation, orders, and patient care plans, and ensuring objectives are understood and practiced by the nursing staff
- Assisting in daily triage/sick call, minor medical/surgical procedures, and patient assessments
- Participating in all monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as assigned and required in accordance with contract compliance
- Mitigating risks by proactively addressing potential hazards, including dangerous work conditions, health and safety concerns and reporting issues to company leadership and facility management
Qualifications
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within state of Florida.
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
- Progressive administrative/management experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Strong clinical skills and progressive management experience providing comprehensive medical, dental, and mental healthcare services within a correctional healthcare or acute care setting
- Ability to manage complex staffing matrices and clinical supplies
- Excellent communication skills with proven experience managing and training medical staff
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Capabilities: Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
