The Coding Quality Educator, Lead is responsible for the strategic development, execution, and continuous improvement of coder and provider education programs across UVA Health. This role provides leadership and mentorship to coding quality educators, ensures consistent educational standards, and collaborates with clinical and administrative stakeholders to support optimal documentation, coding accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
The Lead Educator oversees the creation of education curricula, educator onboarding and skill development, refinement of teaching methodologies, coordination of coder and provider training programs, and integration of audit findings into educational strategy. This position also serves as the primary point of contact for MD Audit software used by the education team and supports system-level initiatives that enhance coding quality and clinical documentation. Contributes to long-term planning for education, quality improvement, and operational excellence. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree required or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree. Experience: A minimum of five years of experience required in a complex hospital setting Knowledge of third party billing and reimbursement methodologies required Understanding of CPT level II and III HCPCS and hospital charging methods is essential General comprehension of medical terminology is necessary. Licensure: none PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires sitting for prolonged periods, frequently traveling (no more than two miles); Repetitive motion: (Typing). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to cold, heat and outdoor climate.
