The Director, Research provides leadership and oversight for departmental research activities by optimizing research opportunities for faculty, residents, and trainees through support of basic, clinical, and translational research project conception and development, grant writing, recruitment and compliance, manuscript development, and management of submissions. Builds and sustains a research portfolio aligned with departmental and organizational priorities. The Oncology Research Director provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for the Carilion Clinic Oncology Research Enterprise. This leader is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive oncology research infrastructure that advances clinical research across Carilion Clinic. The Director will lead the growth of a high-performing oncology research portfolio, oversee research operations and governance, strengthen clinical trial performance, foster investigator development, and build the infrastructure necessary to support long-term growth and national recognition of Carilion's cancer research programs. This position serves as the operational architect of the oncology research enterprise and works collaboratively with physician investigators, research leaders, academic partners, and health system executives to advance innovation and improve cancer outcomes across Southwest Virginia. What We Require: Education: Master's Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: 3 years of experience performing and coordinating research activities. Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: None. Life Support: N/A. Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology required; proficiency with computers and standard office software required; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities required; strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills required; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships required; ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team required; creativity, initiative, and attention to detail required.
