The Senior Leader, Sales Compensation plays a critical role in enabling scalable, accurate, and data-driven incentive programs that support global revenue growth and operational excellence. This role drives the design and execution of variable compensation programs across multiple regions and aligns compensation strategy with business performance and go-to-market priorities.

Operating within a complex multinational environment, this role supports 800+ commission-eligible employees globally across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC, spanning direct sales, channel, services, and renewals compensation models.

The role partners closely with Finance, Sales, HR, Legal, and IT, and works in close alignment with FP&A leadership to deliver transparency, governance, and strategic impact.

How you will make an impact:

  • Design global sales compensation strategies aligned to revenue growth, product mix, margin objectives, and customer outcomes

  • Lead annual and in-year planning cycles including quota methodologies, incentive plan design, and scenario modeling

  • Establish and implement analytics and metrics to evaluate compensation plan effectiveness

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant compensation payouts through governance, internal controls, auditability, and SOX-aligned processes

  • Deliver forecasting insights on attainment, payout exposure, and cost of sales using modeling, predictive analytics, and AI-enabled approaches

  • Build and enhance dashboards and reporting solutions to provide visibility into performance, earnings, and attainment

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while promoting automation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required OR MBA OR advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in sales compensation, incentives, or commercial finance, including leadership experience supporting large, complex commission-eligible populations.

  • Application of compensation tools including Varicent and Anaplan, customer relationship management systems such as SFDC/CRM, and reporting tools such as Power BI or equivalent

  • Industry background in hardware, manufacturing, or technology environments

  • Application of analytical methods for modeling complex incentive plans and forecasting compensation expense

  • Communication experience engaging field sales teams and executive stakeholders

  • Collaboration and stakeholder management across cross-functional teams

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with global compensation programs supporting multi-region organizations

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position is CAD $ 140,000 - $180,000.

The annual pay range for this position in US is USD $ 160,000 - $210,000

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
