The Opportunity:

Join the Maintenance Services team within UCF's Facilities and Business Operations as our Automotive Operations Manager and lead a high-impact fleet program supporting one of the nation's largest universities. In this role, you'll oversee the full life-cycle of a large, complex fleet-driving strategies for utilization, replacement, and sustainability while ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. You'll lead a skilled team, manage budgets, and collaborate with campus partners and external agencies to deliver a world-class standard in service. Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage the university's fleet program, including vehicle acquisition, utilization, life-cycle planning, and motor pool operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective service delivery.

  • Develop and oversee operating and capital budgets, including maintenance, fuel programs, rentals, and replacement reserves, while implementing long-term strategies aligned with university needs.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and university policies; serve as the primary liaison with departments, vendors, and external agencies (e.g., FDOT).

  • Oversee fleet asset management within IWMS (AiM), including life-cycle tracking, data accuracy, preventive maintenance programs, and performance monitoring to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.

  • Conduct audits, inspections, and vendor evaluations to ensure quality, compliance, and continuous improvement in fleet operations.

  • Coordinate generator and emergency power support operations, ensuring readiness and continuity of critical services during outages and emergency events.

  • Leverage data and reporting tools to analyze fleet utilization, support right-sizing and replacement planning, and inform strategic decision-making.

  • Support capital planning initiatives, including fleet replacement and infrastructure improvements (e.g., fuel systems, EV transition), while identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for fleet operations; communicate expectations and updates, and lead staff through effective supervision, training, and performance management.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or combination of relevant comparable education and supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Extensive experience managing a large, complex fleet program, preferably in higher education, government, or a similarly regulated environment.

  • Strong knowledge of fleet lifecycle management, preventive maintenance programs, and asset management systems (e.g., IWMS/AiM or similar platforms).

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP), or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance, including state reporting requirements and coordination with agencies such as FDOT.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage operating and capital budgets, including cost analysis, forecasting, and long-term capital planning.

  • Experience leading and developing teams, with a focus on performance management, safety, and high-quality service delivery.

  • Bachelor's degree in Fleet Management, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.


Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The full salary range for this position is $64,518 - $96,778. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
