| Position Summary |
The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time Research Assistant Professor. This is a fixed-term academic faculty appointment commensurate with qualifications.
The successful applicant will focus primarily on molecular biology analyses in breast cancer research and serve as director of the cancer research laboratory for Dr. Philip Spanheimer. This position requires expertise in original scholarship, research design, research engineering, implementation of research procedures, data analysis, and interpretation of results, with a substantial emphasis on bioinformatics analysis, from primary data processing through biological interpretation. The position will focus on but not limited to breast cancer research including the analysis of therapeutic response and mechanisms of resistance. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology, or a related field.
- Postdoctoral experience and dedicated bioinformatics experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Prior experience or the ability to train and assist others in a team-science research environment.
- Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong record of relevant academic publications.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Experience in bioinformatics related to cancer research, including analysis of single-cell transcriptomic and multiomic data, proteomic data analysis, and the application of diverse bioinformatics methods.
- Experience modeling intratumoral heterogeneity.
- Experience developing bioinformatics methods to integrate multiple omic layers.
