In this role, the successful candidate The Sr. Director for Radiology, Cardiology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery is responsible for providing administrative oversight, financial planning, as well as operational direction and evaluation, in a manner consistent with the departmental/divisional mission, purposes, and goals with a focus on the following: Ensure patient satisfaction, operational efficiency, and implementation of strategic services to achieve service line quality, performance, and growth. This includes the creation and implementation of appropriate staffing models. Provide guidance to the following: Cardiology (inpatient services and all consult services) and to the Departments of Radiology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. This individual will be expected to work in collaboration with physician leadership to create clinical structures that support efficiency, patient experience, and outstanding quality. Maintain effective communication among medical, nursing, and administrative leadership. The successful individual will create forums to allow staff input into improving throughput and quality demonstrating professionalism and cross- department collaboration. Ensure policies and protocols are followed by all personnel, including physicians, PAs and NPs. Collaborate with Hospital and SOM leadership to lead efforts in strengthening the continuum of cardiovascular services for NYU Langone Health System. This includes effective outreach to attract new patients, support for new recruits, effective collaboration with perioperative leadership to allow for prompt scheduling and completion of cases. The Sr. Director will establish cross-departmental relationships with multiple stakeholders throughout the organization and will report directly to the Vice President(s) for Hospital Operations. The individual will also be responsible for overseeing financial performance for these departments/divisions with immediate analysis of any overage in expenditures. The other responsibilities are outlined below. Job Responsibilities: Operational Excellence
- Provides daily oversight and management of staff resources, patient and staff schedules where needed, supplies, equipment and environment of care with a focus on efficiency, patient throughput, quality and safety.
- Leads projects and initiatives focused on achieving institutional goals and promoting growth of the services by developing proposals to optimize existing services or to realize new opportunities and by leading others as a change agent to achieve desired outcomes.
- Facilitates the development and implementation of operational workflows, policies and procedures, and staff development activities to ensure the efficiency of operations, promote quality of care and the financial stability of operations.
- Identifies opportunities for enhanced patient throughput to positively impact patient experience and improve performance through meeting departmental/divisional targets.
- Facilitates the administrative process of clinical/divisional/departmental activities including recruiting and on-boarding, maintaining records, organizing meetings, seminars, trainings, etc.
- Establishes and monitors goals, objectives and service standards for Radiology, Cardiology, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery in conjunction with divisional/departmental/organizational leadership.
- Works with other hospital teams and key stakeholders, including physician, nursing, advanced practice, ancillary and operational leadership to drive efficiency.
- Engages with staff and establishes an effective communication strategy to support staff engagement including sustaining ongoing forums to seek input from frontline staff to improve throughput and patient experience.
- Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies to manage the process of innovative change effectively with knowledge of the clinical implications.
- Champions change and effectively manages the implementation of new programs and new ideas.
- Partners with appropriate leadership to initiate clear communication to patients, attendings and stakeholders during emergency situations related to weather, crisis, technical/mechanical issues, environmental issues, surges in patient volume, etc.
Financial Management
- Prepares operational and capital budgets.
- Develops strategies for cost containment and maximization of revenues by working with organizational stakeholders including physician leaders, supply chain, nursing and finance. This includes maintain systems to track usage of supplies against usage.
- Works closely with finance along with Vice President(s) for Hospital Operations and Chief(s) of Service(s) on budgeting, including ongoing monitoring, understanding variances, and maintaining close fiscal responsibility utilizing strong analytical skills to provide variance explanations as well as utilizing variance data to influence subsequent changes to staffing assumptions.
- Collaborates with Chief(s) of Service(s) and designees around value-based initiatives to reduce unnecessary costs while driving patient quality and safety.
- Works with Chief(s) of Service(s) and designees to identity opportunities for revenue capture through effective clinical documentation.
Staff Management
- Fosters ongoing mentoring, coaching, development and professional advancement of management and staff at all levels within areas of responsibility.
- Promotes collaborative relationships within Medical Services and with other Hospital constituencies to advance service goals and participates actively in the recruitment and selection of Medical Service management/professional staff, etc. as appropriate.
- Reviews employee engagement surveys in detail identifying opportunities to improve staff engagement.
Data Analytics
- Oversees data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and analyzing of patient volume and efficiency metrics and offers recommendations for improving communication, efficiency, quality and safety.
- Synthesizes complex information in high-quality deliverables for presentation to senior leadership and cross-campus partners.
- Effectively communicate concepts and methodologies for purposes of understanding and replication for future projects.
- Performs ad hoc quantitative and qualitative analyses (to inform leadership decisions).
- Utilizes available operational dashboards to identify opportunities and implement effective corrective actions when opportunities arise.
Compliance and Policy Development
- Sets appropriate goals and objectives and ensures vibrant and functioning interdisciplinary clinical and operational performance measurement and improvement processes.
- Develops, monitors, and maintains quality assurance programs in compliance with applicable TJC, CMS, NYS DOH and other regulatory standards.
- Ensures compliance with and performance on national measures, TJC national patient safety goals, hospital shared goals, and other hospital operational and quality metrics.
- Anticipates changes in regulations and develops a plan for compliance and/or performance improvement.
Special Projects
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as aligned with the mission and values of the organization under the guidance of the Vice President(s) of Hospital Operations.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters degree in business administration, health care administration or relevant discipline and 10 years progressive leadership experience including management and budget administration, planning and implementing administrative activities and supervising staff, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Excellent organization, interpersonal, problem solving, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management; ability to interpret and effectively communicate policies and procedures to individuals at all levels (both internal and external customers). Demonstration of effective collaboration with senior physicians to include communication, implementation of new programs, and integration of new physicians. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiar with EMRs, Tableau, Visio, Access, Decision Support reporting programs and other applications. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
