  • Location: Newport Naval Station Commissary

  • Shift: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 12:00 pm through 6:00 pm


CW is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Material Handler to join our team in a fast-paced grocery store environment. In this role, you will help keep products moving efficiently from receiving areas to shelves and storage locations, ensuring the store remains well-stocked, organized, and ready to serve customers.



  • Safely operate pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload products throughout the store and storage areas.

  • Receive deliveries and transport products from loading areas to designated storage or sales floor locations in a timely manner.

  • Stock shelves, coolers, and displays to ensure products are readily available for customers.

  • Organize backroom and storage areas to maintain an efficient and accessible inventory system.

  • Track, label, and verify products to support accurate inventory and minimize loss.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting, handling, and storage of products.

  • Assist with rotating stock and monitoring product quality, including checking dates and condition.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment in both storage and sales floor areas.

  • Support store operations and team members by ensuring products are available and replenished as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate stocking and inventory priorities.


What You'll Need to Be Successful:



  • Previous experience in a grocery store, retail, warehouse, stocking, or material handling environment.

  • Ability and willingness to learn safe operation of material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or similar tools.

  • Basic inventory, labeling, and stocking skills.

  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety standards and proper product handling.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

  • Valid RealID

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access.

    Physical & Environmental Demands:



    • Standing and Movement: Frequently stand, walk, and move throughout the store, stockroom, and loading areas for extended periods, often for the majority of the shift.

    • Lifting and Carrying: Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull products and materials weighing up to 40-50 pounds, with occasional team lifting for heavier items.

    • Repetitive Motion: Perform repetitive tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (including overhead), grasping, and stocking shelves throughout the shift.

    • Manual Dexterity: Use hands and arms continuously to handle products, open boxes, stock shelves, and operate pallet jacks or similar equipment.

    • Equipment Operation: Safely operate manual or electric pallet jacks and other basic material handling equipment; may require coordination and physical control in tight spaces.

    • Climbing and Reaching: Use step stools or small ladders to access products stored on higher shelves; frequent reaching at or above shoulder level.

    • Temperature Exposure: Work in varying temperature conditions, including ambient store environments, refrigerated coolers, and freezer areas with proper protective gear.

    • Noise Level: Work in a moderately noisy environment with background sounds from store activity, equipment, and customer traffic.

    • Customer-Facing Environment: Work in an active retail setting with frequent customer interaction, requiring awareness of surroundings and safe movement at all times.

    • Surfaces and Hazards: Frequently work on hard flooring and in areas that may become wet or slippery; must maintain awareness to prevent slips, trips, and falls.

    • PPE Requirements: May be required to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, slip-resistant footwear, or cold-weather gear when working in refrigerated areas.

    • Work Pace: Ability to maintain productivity and accuracy while working in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment with shifting priorities.

    • Visual Requirements: Must be able to read labels, product information, safety signage, and inventory documentation accurately.

    • Endurance: Must be able to sustain physical activity and consistent effort throughout scheduled shifts, including weekends, evenings, or holidays as needed.
