SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Department Manager, provides direction for patient meal services at patient care units to ensure patient satisfaction and safety. Responsible for coordination of patient meal service including menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs for 'Expressly for You' Dining Service. Directs the preparation of cafeteria "grab and go" items, assists with special functions, and performs other related duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews department policies and procedures

Reviews hospital policies and procedures Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.

Completes mandatory education- Hospital-wide- Department-specific- Job-specific

Evaluates patient meal selection, tray completion, tray delivery, and tray retrieval process including "late trays" on a daily basis.

Assigns, leads, and monitors the work of Dietary Aides and Hospitality Service Representatives in the assembly of patient trays for the following patient population: child, adult, geriatric.

Suicide Precaution Demonstrates a working knowledge of food service sanitation, infection control principles, and uses accepted techniques in preparation, handling and service of food.

Responsive to patient's needs at all times. Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately and/or reports needed assistance to Manager or Supervisor as appropriate.

Works with Registered Dietitian, Chef or Manager to ensure alternatives to menu as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious preferences, when patient inquires or needs additional selections.

Performs any or all duties of Dietary Aides and/or Hospitality Services Representative according to demands of workload or staffing including; Patient tray service- Preparation of nutritional supplements and enteral feedings- Cafeteria service- Cafeteria cashier

Assigns, directs, and assists Dietary Aides and/or Hospitality Services Representative in the cleaning of the kitchen, cafeteria, and unit kitchens. Continually monitors employee activities and performance and reports to Food Service Manager.

Recommends procedural improvements on matters requiring correction to the Food Service Manager.

Trains Dietary Aides and Hospitality Services Representative as directed, in proper methods, techniques, policies and procedures, and safe working practices.

Evaluates Patient Meal Selection, Tray Completion, and Tray Delivery and Retrieval Process daily using tray audits, and test trays, taste panel with the chefs and meal rounds on the in-patient units. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications:

High school education or equivalent desired.

Duties require ability to read and understand arithmetic and measures to report fluid intake and prepare enteral feedings.

Minimum of six months comparable food services experience preferably in a health care or institutional setting.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, walk 3-7 hours per day, squat/bend/twist 1-3 hours per day, and lift 10-35 lbs with good body mechanics. Must be able to use both hands/wrists with moderate deviation/repetitions and perform work with gross dexterity and infrequent fine motor skills. Near/far vision must be accurate at 20/40, have moderate depth perception and be able to discriminate between red/green and blue-violet.

Pay Range:

$18.00-$27.13
