Summary:


The Leadership Gift Officer (LGO) is a frontline fundraising professional within MaineHealth's Southern Region responsible for securing leadership-level philanthropic support in alignment with MaineHealth's top strategic priorities. This role manages a portfolio of 150 high-capacity donors.The LGO is expected to be a key contributor to current philanthropic initiatives including medical education, clinical and biomedical research, precision medicine, and capital expansion for orthopedic surgery. The LGO is expected to secure a minimum of $1M annually in leadership gift commitments.In addition to community-facing work, the LGO serves as primary philanthropy liaison to MaineHealth's OB/GYN Service Line and Maine Medical Center's Department of Medicine with a strong emphasis on grateful patient and family philanthropy. In partnership with clinical and administrative leaders, the LGO plays a critical role in advancing MaineHealth's culture of philanthropy and long-term mission. This role requires flexibility to travel when necessary, both in and out of state.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Portfolio & Moves Management:
    • Oversee the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of a portfolio of 150 leadership gift prospects.
    • Develop customized donor strategies to move each prospect toward a leadership gift commitment aligned with MaineHealth's strategic priorities and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Proposal Development
    • Achieve annual targets for leadership gift proposal development and submission.
  • Funds Secured
    • Achieve annual targets for secured leadership gift commitments raising a minimum of $1M per year.
    • Contribute materially to multi-year campaign goals through leadership gifts and strategic solicitation planning.
  • Campaign and Service Line Management
    • Act as primary philanthropy liaison to the MaineHealth OB/GYN Service Line and Maine Medical Center's Department of Medicine.
    • Achieve annual targets for service line liaison work as a part of MaineHealth's culture of gratitude program focusing on grateful patient and family philanthropy.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: CFRE or CAP Certification preferred.
  3. Experience: Five years of development experience required, ideally with a background of raising funds in a healthcare or academic medical center.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and grant writing.

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated success securing six figure gifts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and relationship building skills; the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
