| Position Summary |
This position will support Peanut Breeding researchers within the Dept. of Crop and Soil Sciences, and will be under the direction of Dr. Nino Brown. The primary focus of current research projects include investigating the genetic control and influence of several agronomic and crop quality traits, development of
DNA-markers for use within the breeding program, and incorporation of cutting-edge breeding and phenotyping techniques to accelerate genetic gain. This role will involve interfacing with and assisting researchers, graduate students, technicians, and student workers to accomplish common research goals.
General responsibilities will include routine field maintenance such as cultivation, spraying, fertilization, and irrigation. Tissue sampling, plant and plot harvesting, peanut grading and shelling, data collection in the field and in the lab, seed packaging, and planting will be some of the many tasks to perform and supervise. The employee will be based at the Tifton Campus, however, frequent travel to off-site locations within the peanut production regions of the state is necessary. This position will utilize a P-card. |

- Preparation for and planting of breeding research plots with specialized seed research equipment.
- Monitor crop development and environmental conditions to maintain optimal and uniform growing conditions throughout the season, including irrigation, fertility, and pest management adjustments.
- Collect field data and observations related to plant growth, health, and treatment responses, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all plots.
- Manage primarily local field trials, with some research activities conducted at off-site locations throughout the state.
- Travel to support off-site trials, with peak travel occurring during planting (April-May) and harvest (September-October).

| Duties/Responsibilities |
- Manage and evaluate research materials, including leaf tissue sampling for the purpose of DNA analysis.
- Oversee and collect data from diverse research materials, including seed increase plots, yield trials, and individual plant samples, ensuring accurate evaluation of plant performance and disease response.
- Use specialized peanut equipment and general lab equipment including shelling equipment, moisture meters, scales, etc.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory and peanut-specific equipment to ensure reliable and consistent data collection.
- Follow established safety and quality control procedures while handling equipment and conducting laboratory tasks.
- Record and document data accurately to support research and reporting needs.
P-Card Responsibilities:
- Process and reconcile purchase card transactions in compliance with University of Georgia financial policies and procedures
- Monitor cardholder activity to maintain adherence to spending limits and policy guidelines
- Prepare and submit monthly reports and reconciliations in a timely manner
- Resolve discrepancies and work with vendors and departments to correct billing issues
