$73,107 - $77,561 Application Window Open date: June 26, 2026 Next review date: Friday, Jul 31, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Friday, Aug 14, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA seeks applications for the position of a Lecturer in the Archaeology of Ancient Israel. The position will be expected to teach a total of three courses over the 2026-2027 academic year, starting in January 2027, including a course on Jerusalem, as well as variable topics on the archaeology of ancient Israel. Other undergraduate courses of the instructors own design will be approved in consultation with the Kershaw Chair and with the department chair's approval and may focus on any archaeological subject concerning the southern Levant between the Chalcolithic and the Byzantine period. Candidates must have at least an M.A. or more in Near Eastern Archaeology or Anthropology with specialization in the Levant, and prior college-level teaching experience. They should be able to demonstrate a command of southern Levantine archaeology from ca. 4500 to 330 B.C.E. and its integration with Near Eastern textual sources, including biblical literature. Additional skills in related ancient languages is desired. Prior excavation experience in Israel is expected.
