Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Chief Nursing Office (ACNO) is a transformational leader who works as an extension of and reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for a campus site. This position works collaboratively with the campus COO, CMO and CNO daily. Participates in establishing the annual facility operating plan for nursing having administrative oversight for inpatient hospital operations, which may include direct supervision of multiple levels of nursing leaders depending on campus need. The ACNO is responsible for overseeing effective day-to-day operations, short- and long-range planning, effective fiscal management, development of new services and programs, and effective quality improvement processes to drive desired outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Scope and Practice
    Oversees nursing professional practice standards and guidelines, assuring adherence to relevant statutes rules, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
    Assures that patients and families within areas of responsibility receive personalized care and service that is consistent with the organization's mission, vision, and values within nursing clinical practice standards.
    Ensures that nursing standards of patient care and standards of professional nursing practice are consistent with current nursing research findings and nationality recognized professional standards. Fosters awareness of and implementation and evaluation of nursing evidence-based practice and research.
    Works to improve the patient experience and HCAHPS scores on all units, participates in site-based improvement teams in collaboration with CNO, CMO and COO.
    Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact upon nursing and patient care services, integrating lean principles in achieving efficiencies concurrent with standardizing nursing work roles and patient care delivery models of care.
    Works closely with site clinical leaders , medical staff, and shared governance councils in operational implementation of care delivery models, nursing and clinical practice environment, and quality improvement.
    Participates in the Core Magnet Team and assures continual readiness efforts related to the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program, identifying any gaps related to the standards are met in all domains, and assists with the annual written report and on-site appraisal process.
    Provides site-specific oversight of accreditation continual readiness efforts, complaint investigations, and assuring adherence with DNV and Arizona health facility regulatory requirements, as well as CMS Conditions of Participation standards.
    Works with the CNO to assure that nursing and clinical labor pool is well managed to align with productivity and budget targets, and that they acquire and maintain competencies needed in collaboration with Professional Nursing Education.
    Participates in Nursing Executive Council, Nursing Shared Governance Councils and other committees as needed and/or assigned.
  • Oversees the staff and ensures adequate staffing levels are met/coordinated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. Ensures compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget.
    Monitors and promotes academic advancement, clinical credentials, and professional certifications. Ensure that professional licensure for nurses and other licensed personnel are current and valid in the State of Arizona.
  • Works in collaboration with hospital and ambulatory nursing and service line leaders to facilitate a seamless continuum of care. Leads and models a culture of clinical and service excellence that exceeds ANCC standards for Magnet designation including shared governance, interprofessional teams, evidence-based practice, research and process improvement, professional development, and succession planning.
    Challenges the status quo with innovative ideas and tactics that engage staff, partner with patients, and contribute to the advancement of nursing the nursing profession.
    Maintains frequent and open channels of communication, explores resolutions to problems, reviews and analyzes reports and action plans and is highly collaborative with other team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelors Nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Required
  • Masters in Nursing or health related field. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years Nursing management and/or healthcare administration. History of progressive and successful nursing service management or administration. Required
  • 5 years Prior experience as a nursing and patient care executive. Preferred
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - License State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure Nursing\RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure Required
  • Certification in Nursing Administration 1 Year Required
