| Position Summary |
Responsibilities of the Architect include:
- Manage assigned university capital improvement projects from inception through bidding, construction contract award, construction, and closeout.
- Assist with defining building programs, including requirements for space, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Administer construction phases of projects including:
- Reviewing and processing construction contracts
- Attending pre-construction conferences and progress meetings
- Performing construction inspection
- Auditing, reviewing and approving contractor payments
- Reviewing and approving designer payments for construction administration
- Conducting final inspection and accepting work on behalf of the university.
- Manage the collection and reconciliation of University review comments from Facilities Operations, EHS, Campus Police, and other necessary campus community members at all stages of design.
- Ensure all closeout documents are provided and complete internal closeout requirements
- Provide input to initial project budgeting requirements and assist with creation of project budget requests and required documentation
- Track project spending for assigned projects from beginning to end, maintain detailed records, and maintain project budget control to ensure completion of project within authorized funds
- Establish schedules for project completion, monitor status of assigned projects, and ensure all designers and contractors are adhering to the provided timelines
- Participate in designer selection process for all capital projects including advertising, short listing, and interviews.
- Review all capital improvement projects for quality and cost control purposes to ensure:
- Building systems are appropriate to the function of the building
- Detailing of the building envelope is attentive to weatherability, constructability, maintainability and cost considerations.
- The plan of the facility is responsive to the program, efficient and cost-effective, and contributes to the enhancement of the campus as a whole.

- Five years experience in architectural planning
- Additional educational coursework or degrees in management, computer applications, and communications is desirable
- Thorough technical knowledge of architectural programming, space planning, building code compliance, construction cost budgeting, and architectural design contract management.
- Direct experience in the design of University buildings is desirable, as is an understanding of the administrative processes of project delivery within the North Carolina State system.
- Knowledge of Interscope, the state reporting system
